cos they are rare as rocking horse poo in australia and redbook has no clue about used car values when it comes to anything slightly desirable

LOL Tim, thats not fair.

dealers swear by the redbook guide when you are trying to sell your car to them, but will completely refute the valuation when you want to buy theirs.

Balkanac, The S2 is a god amongst historical Audis. this one looks nice, but I just wonder what the ongoing maintenance/ownership costs would be like?

i would love to find an s2 avant same year, i spose the 30k price tag is a good starting point, as the saying goes. "a car is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it"

I did a pre delivery on one of the first RS2 in Southwest Scotland and was the donkeys bollocks man. Dark green, Nice shiny Red Porsche brakes and went like a cut snake. Very much a sleeper the Avant.

Good point. I guess one would have to go to Audi for everything and pay big bucks, if they have parts, that is. I'd love to have something like this, i love the shape, so rare

Balkanac, tell you what, I'll give you $25k for yr R32 and that will give you a very sizeable deposit towards the S2. Now can I be fairer than that???j:

If you see a Kingfisher blue one in QLD/Brisbane and the driver has short hair/mental looking type his names Graham. This car in Perth is overpriced for the market.

Been advertised since before May 07. Not exactly in demand is it...

Jmac
11-03-2008, 10:02 PM
Yeah not enough people know about them over here. If they knew the half it would be gone a long time ago.

evorobin
11-03-2008, 10:09 PM
You can pick them up for half the price in the UK. Just because the car is "special" are people expected to pay double over here. Clearly in this instance the answer is no.

Yeah you are right, very dear and i agree with that comment, I owned a 2.3 Coupe 1991 and cost me peanuts and sold it for peanuts, My UR Quattro Which still brings a tear to my eye went for silly money and it is a very sought after vehicle and was and still is the best in my eyes. Hope to find some piccies, have been hounding my mother to post them over to me. When she does they will be posted.
Back to the original discussion my passion for this era sometimes gets the better of me.

Whilst it's pricey for an older car, I'd still have it if I had the money to spare.

Mind you - i still think someone stuffed up at Audi and put the vents in the wrong way.

Cool cars - A future classic (If not already) Also released in Sedan and Avant form in RHD.
One ABY Coupe over here is at racecar spec and is used in TargaNZ (pretty much the same format as the Tasmanian Targa)

Two basic types - 3B 5speed box and the later ABY with a 6speed box

You had an RR? pick of the lot  the red one is a 10v as is the silver at the top (cant remember if the 10v's are WR's or MB's) white one is a 20v RR

Didn't the 20v model have bonnet vents not evident on the white one? sorry just going on autotrader pics I used to paw over :D

bsting
15-03-2008, 05:41 PM
:D the vents? you might be thinking about the shortsport? or sportquattro - the 30cm shorter wheelbase one.
That was made into a roadgoing version but in LHD only.

I saw this just before I bought my VR6... Was half tempted to go look at it & take out a dirty great big loan for it.

30k is probably a bit much :? but if you half tempted balk, i'll go look with you :D

Hey Bsting the WR and MB were both 10v mate and the RR of course 20V . WR was the early one 2.1ltr 5cyl and the MB was 2.2l 5cyl. Awesome pioneers of the QUATTRO system and well the SWB was a bear with a sore head .

Well I had a ride in an RS2 and I must say that was incredible ! Comparable to an v8 RS4 but I think I prefer the RS2.

Saw an S2 in the flesh the weekend gone by nice car had porche twist wheels but I prefer the originals as posted.

it's a shame no early avants (ie s2 avant) came to australia..

i'm sure there's 1 or MAYBE 2 rs2/s2 avants in aus, except they cost something like 160k new and had to be privately imported from the uk...

lol. it's funny how you have one of these now mischa...

nice car, i'd have one, but really an RR>>>>>than S2, but then of course any UR is better than an S2... still nice though...

i love both the UR and S2. very similar cars as we all know :) UR is more sinister looking where as the S2 is prettier. i'd love a UR one day to sit alongside my S2 :) (it'd have to be the 20v model though, either that or with an S2 conversion in it)

Just hop across the ditch ... and spend NZ$49,000 on this RR then.

That's a nice 20v ^^ with some decent engine mods. But...
You can buy RS2's here for half that $ and have change for a 10v UR or an ABY S2.

Pop over for a working holiday (one year +) buy what you want, take it back.

Hi Guys,
Ive been lucky enough to have allot of Audi's over the years.
Had 2 quattro 10v's, driven a URq 20v and RS2 as well in melb a fair few times, used to work on them in melb.
Also drove a Malachite green Sport in the UK which was owned by tom hammond, big quattro guy. That had about 340bhp, awsome.
Dad had an S2 for 3 years, nice car but needs beter suspension and much better brakes. 3 corners and they fade to nothing. I put boxster brakes on dads one and it was much better.

quattros are getting very hard to get parts for now so S2 is a better bet for a daily driver just budget for brakes and shocks.

Cheers,

Simon

My brother had one of these from new. Was a fantastic bit of gear went like the proverbial shower of Sh@t. Was great untill a moron ran a red light and "T" boned him, was never the same after that so he sold it. Bought another Audi but thats another story.
