Rear Brake Pads & Rotors - 2020 140 tsi Sport 4Motion

Had the 4 year/60,000 klm service today - only travelled 32477klms and was advised the rear brake pads were down to approx 3mm and were needing replacement PLUS the Rotors also = WTF.
I get the rear bias put on by VW will wear the pads quicker but was advised the rotors have a "soft" metal and as such they wear also, can't be machined on the vehicle so VW provide the rotors & pads as a set - fitted $802.00 :mad:.

Looking @ possibly OEM rotors by BCP and Bendix pads for $230.00 and get a mechanic to fit as may save a few hundred $$ and possiblt get better longevity from aussie maade rotors.

Anyone had similar issue with their T-ROC or offer comments.

Normal for Euro vehicles, although yours seem a bit fast to wear out.

Buy some Brembo rotors and ceramic pads, and get your mechanic to fit them.

They will last better and produce virtually no dust.

As above - its normal with european cars. They use harsh metallic pads and soft disks which give very good braking performance, but create a huge amount of brake dust and wear the pads + disks out in record time.

Replace them with new disks and ceramic pads and they will last 100,000+ km's. Ceramic pads also product almost no brake dust so you will have the added benefit of cleaner wheels.

I have used Bosch and Brembo products recently, and really like the Brembo products.

Thanks gerhard and Lucas _R - I saw the ceramic pads while searching but wasn't sure but will check on those valuable links you have provided . the ceramic sound good as the amount of pad dust is crazy and with only suburban driving done nothing lasts long with the continual stop start but I don't brake hard or ride the brakes.

Brembo always good and Bosch an option - I'll check on the service report re the fronts so may do all 4 corners ��

Brembo look the GO and will opt with that option for rears as suggested and do the fronts when time comes - being retired and limited funds means stage these upgrades.

FYI I took out a care plan for $2,100.00 when I purchased the T-ROC - the 60,000 4 yr service is costed @ $1,166.43 = along with the discount from buying the plan and the annual increases it has proved to be worth the initial hand over of $$ to VW.

Totally understand about doing things in stages (or as necessary) due to money contraints - everything is so expensive these days. At least petrol prices have dropped in recent times from the ridiculous $2.30-2.40p/l that it was a year ago.

The Brembo's are really nice, and also the disks have a very nice dark grey coating on the hubs which not only looks nice but also stops them from rusting like the factory VW disks.

Have ordered the Brembo rear rotors and ceramic pads & they've shipped.:banana:
Contacted VW mechanic I used for the air cooled I used to own and he now only services modern ones - he's booked out and earliest I can get in is 23 October which is fine with me as am in no rush and allows for delivery and check of the new ones.
Didn't want to go the VW supplied so to them :shakebutt:

Good to hear. Im the most fussy person you could meet and I am very happy with the Brembo disks and pads - so hopefully you will be too.

I just fitted a full set of the Brembo ceramic pads to my brothers Mazda RX8 last weekend too.

My logic these days:
Rear pads are only 8-10mm.
Rear rotors are going to be replaced so it doesn't matter if you go metal on metal.
3mm remaining means that you used 5mm in ~35,000km (assuming an 8mm pad) so you use 1mm per 5000km.

You've got 10,000 km of safe usage remaining. Tell me I'm wrong.

Checked the pads and correct part P85124N stamped on the shim but the shim is black not red which is not a biggy but the red shim as stated on the Brembo site would have looked better with the red painted calipers.

Rotors finally arrived to day and just found them so will check them later.

Funny you say that because mine came with a red shim, and they looked weird with my red calipers, so i took them out and painted the shims black so that there is a little bit of contrast. Looks much better with the black shim in my opinion.

But when I installed some on my brothers car a few weeks ago, he had black calipers so the red shim looked good against the black.

Thought it weird also so it could be a change they've made or ddifferent plant made them.
Not concerned really about the colour and agree the gloss caliper and matt shim could have clashed :facepalm:
Checked the rotors and they certainly do look better with that gunmetal colour than the silver from the factory. :toast:
