Need a clutch for a golf gl 1.6l?
Anyone know what the basic price is and where to find one near Wollongong??
Car has done 155K and im guessing all on the original clutch.

1999 GL 1.6L. I found out the box needs rebuilding not just replacing the clutch. got quoted $900 to rebuild the box.

ouch, might be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand gbox??

Thats very cheap for a gearbox rebuild mate. They are either not fully rebuilding it, or a taking you for a raide.

A second hand box could cost you a couple of grand for that car, they all break.

My mechanic is a mate of mine and he said he found 2 workshops to rebuild it for $900 but not sure what exaclty they will be repacing or repairing. So far my best option is to get it rebuilt cause if i buy another s/hand one, i could see myself in the same predicament very soon. Plus everyone is telling me this is a common weak point in this model..

the clutch on my 95 vr6 is about to go too and i want to put a performance clutch in since the work has to be done anyways.

how many hrs appox will I be looking at to get the clutch put in and replaced???
