Howdy,

Been looking at headunit, camera and the like upgrades.

All the how to’s I’ve seen suggest the camera from the highline is not compatible because RGB and end plug etc etc so I got looking into this.

I’m pretty sure the camera itself is ok, it’s the box in the back that add the steering lines etc that is not. There is a 2 wire Fakra connector for the video feed (plus power and earth/signal) at the camera end and then the video Fakra ends up at the camera box, with output of the same multi connector that goes into the back of the RNS unit.

I’m thinking I can actually keep the camera and splice from the fakra at the box end, use two cables from the multi connector and then convert those to RCA to plug into the head unit at the other end.

Saves the pain of threading cables via the tail gate and also via the whole interior.

And if the camera doesn’t work, we’ll I’ll still use the wiring.

Anyone see any pitfalls to this?

The camera itself runs at 5 or 6V(Check with a multimeter), so you will need a voltage regulator.
Other than that, running the video feed over a non-coax cable will have a bit more chance to pick noise.

Run the rca cable through the roof then down passenger side a piller to avoid chance of noise
