Hi Guys,

Just starting this thread for others to share their orders, configurations, pricing and ETA's for the 2022 T-Roc R.

I'm downsizing from a 2019 Tiguan R-Line 162TSI Wolfsburg Edition and have placed an order for the following config:

T-Roc R

Pure White
Panoramic Sunroof
Beats Audio Upgrade

Placed order on 2/5/22 for $66,250 drive away through a local broker after failing to negotiate a better price from my 3x closest VW dealers. Best dealer price I got quoted was $68,400 but not that surprised due to high demand and the ongoing supply issues.

Estimated delivery date is 5th October 2022.

Curious to see what other configs people have ordered and what ETA's you've been given!

My local dealer is only taking "expression of interest" deposits of $500. Can't actually order yet, though I've been told September delivery.

It looks like you have gone through the VW configurator to get the images. Can you post the link you used?

That's interesting they're not taking orders, the sales contract I got had the stock codes listed so I assume they're in the system for all dealers 🤷

The configurator is still not up on the AU website but you can play around with it on the UK site:

I ordered the same spec in white, I couldn’t get a discount at all but it’s in the country so was happy to pay a bit extra for only a short wait. I’ll post photos when I pick it up next week.

I just dropped by our local dealer and they have 3 new T-roc r-lines in the showroom.

The look really good.

I drove past my dealer this afternoon and they had a Grey R on the lot with the Black Style pack. Not sure if it's a demo or a customer order but I'll go back another day and see if its available for a test drive. Looks great in person!

The black one had me wishing I had ordered black but it was white or white if I wanted it this year…

The r looks good! It’s been a real pain trying to get insurance for the R ahead of picking it up next week. NRMA said I can call on Monday and they can get their underwriters to add it to the system… if I don’t get time I found QBE we’re the only ones to have the R loaded onto their system.

Yep I ended up checking before I locked in QBE and went with them.

Absolutely loving it, my only complaint is the lack of engine cover.

Wow looks great! I'm very jealous

Shame about the engine cover, from what I've seen it looks like all the ones coming in to AUS are missing it... hopefully we'll be able to get one later on through VW service.

Ive ordered one on the 25th of July : Deep pearl Black, black interior package, sunroof & Beats package, not due to arrive until January due to colour. 70k from local dealer.

I Believe the no engine cover is from a result of a few incidents where the covers have caught on fire.

Recently ordered a Lapiz Blue T-Roc R with Beats audio and Black style pack for a July 2023 delivery

As a "fleet" owner (with 5 current VWs and 1 due for delivery end November) I got a bit of a discount.

Incoming in November is a T-Roc Style (White with Sound and Vision pack) for my oldest daughter in replacement of her A1.

Incidentally there is a T-Roc R Grid Edition due February for those who can't wait for a mid 2023 delivery. T-Roc R Grid is as always a cheaper (by $5K) version with less in specs, though it comes with black 19" Pretoria wheels.

T-Roc R has the exact same engine/turbo as the MK8 Golf R (both EA888.4). Harding Performance has both in their development fleet and have confirmed that all mods related to the drivetrain works on both cars.

Note that EA888.3 and EA888.4 are very different from a turbo perspective, so none of the EA888.3 turbo mods (ie muffler delete etc) fits the EA888.4

Wo so the t-roc r has the upgraded mk8 turbo?! I wasn't aware of that!! Do you know what turbo is it? or have any links to any material from Harding Performance on their wok on the t-roc?

At end of November I put my $1,000 down for the new Grid Edition in Lapiz Blue. The dealer (Tweed Heads) had one due to arrive at end of January. They called me around Christmas to say it was on its way but would be March delivery. Bummer. Paid $62,800 on the road with 5 year service package which looks about right. To say I can’t wait is an understatement!

VW Aus have announced that they secured an additional 1,500 T-Roc R's which will be arriving very very soon. That brought forward some orders, but also produced a decent number of surplus vehicles apparently, for those who are interested.

I now have a VIN and a build date of 14/01/2023

It's awaiting allocation to a ship, so it's sitting on the dock in Spain .... I'll check regularly to see when it leaves there.

VWA dealers can see what the shipping status is, us customers can only see when its actually booked and/or loaded on a ship. +- 3 weeks from offloading in Aus to delivery.

I tracked the T-Roc Style my daughter got in November this way with the same link from Flipperdog above.

Hopefully it gets on a ship pretty quickly. My Mk8 R sat 6wks in Bremerhaven waiting for a ship and then took over 11wks to arrive into Brisbane. Finally take delivery next Wednesday.

I took a grid edition for a test drive yesterday - black without sunroof. New vehicle(not a demonstrator), in-stock and ready to go. Hasn’t even been properly pd’d yet.

Hmmmm…. Makes the right noises ;)

Black looks great, but those mirror caps would need to be colour coded. Sales manager said they could sort that for me prior to delivery.

I prefer the look of the grid edition over the “proper” R because I’ve always liked the Pretoria wheels. Would take them over the diamond finish ones on the “full fat” R. I also quite like the fleece seats - I don’t mind leather at all, but the fleece is super comfy.

Compared to my current T-Roc….. Wouldn’t miss the sunroof - mine is never open as it’s too noisy (I have racks fitted all the time for my surf ski and road bike), but would maybe miss the heated seats in early morning (pre-dawn) trips to the river in winter when I go paddling. The beats sound is ooookay, but I could live without it (it’s not in the same universe as the B&O system in our A4). Blind spot assist…no prob, likewise rear cross-traffic assist. Not sure there is much else different, feature wise that is….

The trade-in offer I was given was extremely attractive. We are repeat customers with our local VW/Audi dealer, and they are generous when dealing with us. The price included 5 year service plan and tinting of the front windows.

It’d be hard to let my current one go - I like it a lot and at the end of the day it does 99% of what I want - it just doesn’t have the X factor that the R has - probably a lot of it comes down to exhaust note. My son fires up his Polo GTi and I love the sound of it. Since I installed the chip in mine, performance is really good. We’re down around early 6’s for 0-100, and while it’s not in the same league as the R, realistically I seldom use full acceleration anyway - I’m a cruisy guy ;) It does flesh out the torque through the midrange though, which is what I was after, and which the R has in spades.

Got some thinking to do this weekend!

Most T-Roc R Grid Editions sold n August/July/Sep are in Australia already now. I don't think you can order 1 in it was a limited edition to ease supply issues on the full fat R.

Had mine for a few months now. It is black with no sunroof but has the Beats stereo in it. I am not built for sunroofs!
Highly recommend getting the windows tinted and if you have music on file, pick up a USBC stick. The Samsung one, whilst not a thumb drive is small enough that you don't knock it.
Having driven "Red" cars most my life, this is a bit of a change. It is a silly little truck!! Makes you laugh when you drive it!
No, I wasn't supposed to buy it, but I always liked the look of the RVR Hyper Sports Gear and this is in a similar vein.
The salesman told me what they were due to have delivered with no sunroofs, over the next 6 months. When I worked out it was already on a ship, I asked for the name and he showed me on the computer. I am not sure I listened to him after that for a few minutes, I was too busy trying to find where the ship was through marinetraffic.com. It was a Hoegh ship also.
I will try and put up a picture up when I have better computer access.

I am no ship expert but it is now holding off the coast with 7 or 8 others waiting to come into port 15/2/23. I have seen 2 car boats in the Port of Brisbane before but recently there has only been one at a time. 2 car carriers holding off Port Kembla but they can take 3 at a time. Melbourne takes the win though with 12 waiting to berth, they can normally take 3 at a time. Never seen that many waiting to come in. That is a lot of new cars arriving in showrooms in the next month.

Hoegh Traveller maybe? Dealer should be able to tell you.

Yup, it's the Traveller.

The delays are on the port side. Been slow (ports still blame COVID) apparently due to staff issues on the ground processing the many cars arriving. My dealer says 3-4 weeks from offloading before they even see the cars at the dealership holding yards. On my daughter's T-Roc last November, it was exactly 4 weeks from the offload date to when the dealer received the car and then another 4 days of pre-delivery .....

Well as I sit and await delivery for my GE VW has bout out a pre June 30 deal. $58,990 on road. So this is about $1,000 less than I had agreed to pay. So back to the dealer tomorrow to renegotiate. They delayed delivery so they can pay.
interesting the full R is $64,990 on the road.
I suspect that there is a flood of R models coming in after the delays so they are going to try and clear a few before June 30 by knocking of a grand.
Wifey likes the leather, electric tailgate and side warning feature of the full kit model. Should I upgrade?

So I'm likely to order one of these in the coming weeks to take advantage of the sale.. my question is there any real value in going from the grid R to the standard R?

2023 Volkswagen T-Roc R Grid standard features:

19-inch graphite Pretoria alloy wheels
Black roof rails
Performance LED headlights with auto high beam
R Sport seats with cloth and microfleece upholstery
Grid Edition tailgate badge

Items removed compared to the regular T-Roc R:

19-inch Estoril machined-face alloy wheels
Nappa leather upholstery with heated front seats
Electrically-adjustable driver’s seat
Matrix LED headlights with Dynamic Light Assist
Premium LED tail-lights with dynamic indicators
Power tailgate
Blind-spot monitoring
Rear cross-traffic alert
Proactive passenger protection system

You also can’t option the Beats Audio upgrade if that’s something you care about. I think the wheel style & leather vs cloth just come down to personal preference, the rest just comes down to value for money and whether any of those other features are deal-breakers for you...

Picked mine up yesterday afternoon, loving it so far!

Now just need to organise tints for the front windows + paint protection, tossing up between getting Opticoat Pro+ or Gtechniq Ultra. I've had Opticoat on my Tiguan in the past and was happy enough with it so I'm not sure the Gtechniq is worth the extra premium. If anyone here any recommendations I'm all ears.
