While there are a few threads on driving lights, I don't see a lot of answers on how to mount them.

I found this mount from Forge while searching the internet: MQB Tiguan Grill Light Bracket – Forge Motorsport Overland (https://www.forgemotorsportoverland.com/products/mqb-tiguan-grill-light-bracket)

Has anyone used it? Thinking about mounting a light bar and looking for options?

Thanks

Best check as to legality of mounting lights forward of front edge of bumper bar

Where can you mount LED light bars and spotlights? (https://www.4wdingaustralia.com/4x4/where-can-you-mount-led-light-bars-and-spotlights/)

Thanks! More reading to do I guess.

Here's the Vic rules, but they aren't vary clear on protruding the front edge, expect when mounted on a bull bar: Please wait (https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/modify-or-build-a-vehicle/modify-or-build-a-light-vehicle-or-trailer/fog-and-driving-lights)

Nothing there referencing Victorian regulations that I can see.

do a search for VIC road rules. 30 secs of QLD rules for "LED light bars" netted this bit of info.
https://www.publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/ec37bf52-66be-47b0-9832-0e51df00eb3f/resource/446c05fc-1373-4a9d-a5ac-e729598cd334/download/driving-lamps-including-light-emitting-diode-led-light-bars-on-light-vehicles_sep21-final.pdf

I'd suggest the rules will be similar but it comes down to you needing some sort of "nudge bar" (maybe a number plate bar bracket will do) to be able to install a LED bar. I have one on my work car and i think I used it for night driving maybe 4 times in 3 years. But when I used it it WAS good to have it specially with toyota candles for lights in the Hilux.

Thanks. There seems to be number plate mounts available locally, so I think I'll go and talk to an installer / 4wd shop.

Thinking something like this: Number Plate Light Mounting Bracket for Driving Lights (https://www.stedi.com.au/number-plate-light-mounting-bracket.html)

hopefully it's not too flexy mounting like that. thoughts?

What are you going to mount on it? If a light bar then OK any full bodied driving light might present problems. I made my own mounts but I have the machinery to do it and unless you have serious metal working skills and the equipment they could not be copied. I would pull the grill out and do it properly if I was to do it again, mine sit on top of the radiator panel and come out from underneath the bonnet when it is closed as there is just enough space in there to do it that way. I don't use them that much so they do not stay on the car between trips away. The biggest problem is the electrical hook up to the dip switch as a relay cannot be used because of CANBUS control for the headlights. I presume your car has LED headlights??

Thinking a light bar, also worried about weight

Unfortunately the 'inside' of the front bumper cover has no structure and is very flimsy, so mounting the readily available number plate light bar won't work unless you are using very, very light (no pun intended) units. Also unless you are looking at a very low profile LED light bar it will interfere with the. adaptive cruise control, the sensor for which is in the VW badge in the middle of the grille.

I have been looking for a simple way to mount lights since I got my car in January 21017, so far without success. PM me if you discover how it might work without a full custom job.

I have a 2015 Tiguan and I fitted a 32 inch Stedi curved light bar behind the bottom part of the lower grill.
It was "Professionally Fitted" using a Stedi number plate mount first up when I was working in Melbourne in early 2020.
When I moved back to Townville I refitted it to its current position.
The Front bar reinforcement is hardened steel which I could not drill thru with cobalt drills.
I got the four bolt holes water jet cut by a local sheet metal shop ( Cost $50 )
