Wheels made as in the above post are usually the domain of paddock bashers.

I plead with for the safety of yourself and every other road user - NEVER FIT THESE TO A CAR.

These wheels can never be roadworthy and they will never pass scrutineering for a race event

Widened steel rims are made by machining the centre out of the rim and welding it back into another wider rim. This is best done by experts.

Mate I've had steelies welded professionally and they may aswell be oem. You could say that about any job that someone does that has no idea NOT just wheels!

Yep, I've raced on properly made widened Steel wheels made by AJAX back in the day and agree you'd be hard pressed to pick them from OEM.

What worries me about the above technique is the welds around the circumference of the wheel as well as that one across the rim.

There's no way on earth any engineer would ever sign off on that as a viable wheel construction method.

The technical aspects of controlling distortion in circumferential welding of cylindrical shapes are very very complex. There's no way those wheels are going to be round. (Any boilermakers out there care to comment?)

Mig welding also tends to reduce the strength of the surrounding steel as the weld itself is a different hardness to the surrounding metal and does nox flex in the same way allowing the potential for fatigue.

There is a high potential for sudden unexpected rim failure with these wheels.

I'm very very scared by these wheels.

I thought the point of having spacer savers was to have skinny wheels on your car, just to be different. not to widen them. As far as widened steelies are concerned, I've seen far cooler imo....

We actually put 4 space saves on a Mk1 with no suspension in it and you could still roll it!!! Loooooooooow
