Looking good dude, Its good to see you securing your wiring down.

400WRMS per coil, is that all the 8inch can handle lol

Depending on how it finishes, it definately look like one of the best stealth idea's I have seen in a long time.

FYI

The Concept of the install was a very ugly love child by my mate Hennie... hes the resident Audio Guru on eurosport.org.nz he has done some pretty crazy installs and owns enough audio equipment thats unused he could kit out a fleet of cars..

Genuinely interested in your progress.

I had someone like that planned also. So far I've only managed to get my old Boston Pro 6.5's in the car.

Link below if you wanna have a look - but from all accounts, you guys have got it all sorted.

We source power for the H.U. directly from the battery and source the Accessory Signal else where

i do this so the car can be returned to stock standar with ease at any stage!!

and the can is Ados F2 Spray adhesive..

good for carpeting boxes and recovering headliners etc.

Heres sa barage photos of the Work that progressed in the weekend.

Wow, you guys really spent some time on those sub boxes, awesome fabrication. I see you filled them with dacron wool to absord the reverse wave, but I've always wondered about just how much to use, and if this then drops the volume of the box? Is it really that acoustically invisible??

Or is it you guys just dig wool?:D

You have any plans to put a vent or a fan in for the amp? Great idea with the spare tyre well, it's starting to look good to me too....

ranton-inc
17-03-2008, 10:01 PM
funnily enough we just installed the fan system tonight and discoverd the subs love to rattle the interior apart.. so we are busy shutting up rattles... etc (another spanner in the works yay!

what has ticked me off.. i just rolled in to my garage about 2 minutes ago..

turned the key off.. opend the drivers door pulled the key and pop all the interior lighting and central locking died.. why the f*%^ do you have to blow fuses at me at 1:00am nz time grrr.

Well forgot to mention last night how much of a rattle trap the R32 is now..

looks like we will be needing ALOT of foam and deadening!

We put Dynaxorb pads behind the front mids seems as thou it has improved the quality a little..

but the stereo (before that and probably still is now) clear as a bell out side the car.. one things we will be needing alot... and i mean ALOT.... of dynamat or similar...

Good news is the Amp isnt running extremly hot any more with the new AMD processor Fans installed (cheers Glidn) we are waiting for his mum to figure out that two heatsinks and fans out of the new stock have gone missing :P

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/03/DSC07018-1.jpg

also made some foam speaker rings for the front mids to try and direct the sound as much as possible out the door grilles (ie prevent sound being played in to the door card.. hopefully this nullifies any vibrations that could potentially start..

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/03/DSC07020-1.jpg

still got to fix the leak on the passenger side box and the slight leak that just developed on the driverside box..

also the left has a slight lack of Dacron fluff

apparently the dacron fluff tricks the sub in to thinking its in a bigger box..

dont ask me how me no physisizisizisict

lol dude that is funny as!

Yeah I never turn a stereo on until I deaden it, otherwise as you said rattles everywhere. You will find that once you deaden the inner and outer door skin that the dynazorb pad will work even better.

Far out 1am, you guys are keen! I would hate to think how many times a fuse has blown just to annoy the crap out of me.... Starting to really take shape thou!

fact is the deadening will have to happen in a few weeks time..

cant be fluffed at this stage..

just want he car functional again.

well the idea of the dacron inside the subbox can do 2 things, you can stuff just enough to make it sound really good, or sound boxy or even to small an enclosure.

But i guess if wanted could stick dynzord behind it.

Mr Charisma maybe you can help on this one,

i currently have the system running active in the front.
Tweeter is cut off @ 2khz @ 12db
Mids are cut off 63 Hz @ Flat and 2.5Khz @ 6db
Sub @ 100Hz @ 18db

I find as soon as i run anything other than flat on the bottom of the mid the kick just vanishes.

Any suggestion or advice would be good, interior should be some what similar to that of your bora.

just got home from glidns

its 1:30 am i have work in 4 hours..

whoopeee!

we spent pretty much the whole night doing oil changes and working on a sub box for his wifes GTI

got to my two towards the end.. to diagnose the leaks..

which to out surprise there were a few.. i suppose thats the difficulty when moulding and trimming such a difficult shape with glass..

so one box is leaky leaky no more.. and the other one is a current wip.. trying to solve the remaining leaky issues!

got heaps of foam and **** to use as gaskets and **** like that to minimise vibrations etc..

cos the car vibrates horrible especially when listening to Kings of leon the song "on call"

interor back in! yay system operational but only running at 60% of Potential!

stay tuned for part 2: the incorporation of even more foam stuffing and hush matt or dyna mat or similar..

yay..

Mr İharisma
21-03-2008, 03:47 PM
Do it right, deaden why you have the trim off. May need an extra 2-3hours work but its gunna save you a lot of time in the long run!! Even if you do need it finished for the weekend lol.

its the money issue..

not the time issue..

besides

it takes 20 minutes to remove.. so no probs there..

its all got to come out sooner than later any way because there are a few annoying dings down the left hand side that need to be rolled out..

Looks awesome.

How did you run the cables from the battery to the rear for the amp?

And the RCA leads???

I'm planning to do a sub install, but seems like it might be a pain in the ass, as i'm not wanting to cut or destroy anything - so that can be removed in future, and still be tidy.

Cheers.

Looks awesome.

How did you run the cables from the battery to the rear for the amp?

And the RCA leads???

I'm planning to do a sub install, but seems like it might be a pain in the ass, as i'm not wanting to cut or destroy anything - so that can be removed in future, and still be tidy.

Cheers.

Here is a quick run down on doing these steps.

As for power run them up the black channel behind battery up and under the rain tray, run the power cable just to the left of the pollen filter, There is a grommet you can run the power cable thru.

You will have to remove your glovebox to get easy access to it in the car.

Then simply run under the door trim to the boot.

RCA's - run down other side of car under the door trim, and out under the back seats. Or all the way into the boot as we had done.

If you get stuck let us know, will show some photo's as i'm redoing my cabling in a week or so then will be able to post pics.

Its not hard if you have done it a few times before. There is also an easier grommet half way down the firewall under the pollen filter. You can fit huge cables through that one.

If you have never done it before, take your time and factor in about 2days if no one will help you out :D

Otherwise you can always get an Audio shop to run all your cables and you create the install....

hmmm,

maybe i should go find that one.

I guess we both ran our cabling as mentioned before to make the engine bay look 100% factory original.

i started at the back of the car and ran it thru to the front!

heres a foto with the glove box out.

and here is a photo looking up (as thou your lying on the floor in the passenger foot well with the glove box out!

you can see the dash support bar etc

The Black hole thing where the red wire is pointing is the hole that leads out from just behind the pollen filter box..

Then i ran it down thru the black Wire loom duct think that sits under neath where your air box should be

Lol so you did it in reverse. This is where I put mine through.

How did you go? Did you get it all usable?

ranton-inc
26-03-2008, 10:45 AM
WTH?!

you done yours a way different way

mine comes thru a hole under the rain tray
and runs straight thru that black plastic duct for the loom.. the cables come out right by the battery

which is why my Wires are secured tightly around the battery box.

secured as tidily as possible..

ill have to get another foto tonight

My Head decks dedicated power and earth wire go thru the same hole..

you can only see the wires when you pop out the cover that reveals the pollen filter..

will take photo tonight hopefully..

i always seem to wire the cars from the back to the front..

i use a short section of thick gauge wire taped to the other electrical wires to thread them thru holes.. and tight spaces ie how i got the speaker wire direct in to the doors..

not just outside.. the doors or re using the standard wiring of the car.

Mr İharisma
26-03-2008, 11:13 AM
Yeah that is about the easiest way to feed the wires through. Packing tape also seems to work.

I did think about running it up that duct but I am so lazy so yeah different hole as it was easier than pulling everything out. Only run a 4ga power ( thanks largely to the Audison amps producing over 750WRMS off only 50-60A for normal music ) and like to dress the engine bay up a bit. With the earthing kit it makes life a little hard to hide it all lol.

Mr İharisma
26-03-2008, 11:17 AM
As you can see, this is how my engine bay currently looks :D

ranton-inc
26-03-2008, 12:24 PM
yours is a complete different story :P

ihave a earthing kit to

but its only a 3 branch one

one to the throttle body being the main focus as its connected to the plastic intake manifold and as we all know plastic doesnt have conductive properties..

so the electronic throttle body has a grounding..

i need to pull my headlights and make sure everything is connected proper on them

only reason HitmanR32 has wired his power up in reverse is we did his last golfs wiring too but did it from front to rear. So he already knew where it had to go but we where unsure of the length. Hence running it in reverse.

Mr İharisma
26-03-2008, 02:08 PM
Well really who said it has to go from front to back?

Maybe Hitman did the right way and everyone else does it wrong....

haha well i guess so, hence you have the power where you want it then join in the engine bay if need be.

BTW were the speakers mounted on the door card before ? than you simply MDF it to the door frame ?

ranton-inc
29-03-2008, 04:21 PM
well got a few more rattles soreted today its amazing what electrical tape and foam can acheive!

and nah

i bolted a mdf ring to the door with m6 cap screws i put Rivet nuts in place of the original rivet holes

then screwed the speaker to the next mdf ring right thru to the mdf ring mounted in to the door.

i could have mounted it like 3 peice mags had i bought long enough cap screws.

Good work dude, I bet the long nights are starting to be worth it hey. Definately a neat little stealth install! I like the use of space, a 3 door must be a pain to keep it useful and have a bit of a stereo. Well done.

lol those Diamantes made awesome shopping cars, you could fit 4x 15's in the boot no problem.

Sweet, have you got the hole thing tuned yet? Would be interesting to see if the amp overheats. Suppose it doesn't get that hot over there though.

Luckily it was company so they used to pay for the scratches and bangs.... they eventually got me a commonwho*e and it was far better from a parking point of view... when I left they wanted to give me a mitsubishi Triton.... LOL
