Tiguan 162 Rline questions / issues

Hi,


I have recently picked up my Tiguan Rline (21) and have a few issues / questions:


- For some reason the dealer never put the radio logo's. I have downloaded them to do myself but for the life of me I cant see an option to upload them. All i get when going to station logos and selecting a station os no logos available. Anyone know how to upload them? (im trying with a usb)


- I have tried 2 x SD cards in the slots and neither seem to be detected. Anyone have any tips?


- I want to update my discovery pro nav but nothing shows up. I downloaded Aus the maps from Volkswagen App-Connect | smartphone apps in your car (https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/), extracted to USB (which has 21 folders and 1 file) but when i go to settings > system information > update, nothing shows. For system information it has:


Hardware - H56
Software 0782
Navigation database : 19.11
Media Codec: 3.1.4
Radio Database <blank>


- Dynamic road signs always show as no data, doesnt seem to pick up anything.




Is this all a case of VW doing SFA pre delivery or is it a lack of knowledge on my behalf?


Any help would be great appreciated.

Is 29GB and when unzipped is 2 folders and a text file on a 32Gb SD card
Dynamic road signs are probably not enabled as they arent on all older 5 seaters but can be done and just so you know they arent perfect because of the limitations of our type of maps. Look through the VCDS forum and you will pick up a lot of info on how to do what you want .

One thing the 2020 models have been quite severely munted for electronic mods by VW EG you cant turn off Stop Start plus other stuff

You could read my post here but will need an OBDEleven to do stuff at a cost of over $150 or some s/handones on here for $100

I cant imagine the dealer would upload the radio logos for you as part of pre-delivery. Knowing dealerships, they probably arent even aware it can be done.

As for why your SD slots do not work - cant help you with this.

When i go to station logo's, I get a list of the stations, then select the station and all i get is no station logo's. (I have the disocery pro) There is no option to select and storage devices to add one. I have looked all over the net and am yet to see any instructions on how to do it for the discovery pro

If you have an Rline it normally has the 9" flat face discover pro with NO BUTTONS (unless you dont have the sound and vision pack) and have something else and no the map for that one IS 29GB the Discover MEDIA that looks like the older models is 4.3 GB You are arguing with your Grandma here LOL

If you go to the link I provided and put in the correct info as to car model/year/ media unit it will take you to the correct map. which is P90 for a PRO

Ok might have figured it out as it seems you have a Gen 3 unit when ours are Gen 2 and dont have USB C.
I suggest you download the manual on that page and substitute the maps in the instructions with AUS and do what it says.

Seems they are updating whats in it rather than as on ours putting a whole new map in. Follow the manual and see how it goes.

yeah i followed the manual but when i select to update nothing appears, no option to even select a USB source etc. I know the stick is detected as it shows up in media devices. Just an update, I chased up with the dealer and was told that at the moment there is no way to upload the station logos and they are currently looking at a way to do it. So looks like they have completely nerfed the new version of the entertainment system. Pretty crazy IMO

I have exactly the same issue and my dealer has just told me “they don’t have logo images on the new models” which is rubbish and I told them it was unacceptable. VW AU/NZ have stuffed up here by removing the SD card slots (no doubt to save a few cents) and not realised the flow on affect. A row of grey box with numbers under them is not a quality looking radio interface in a $70k vehicle. There must be a software solution and they need to sort it out sooner than later.

The OCD in me even fills in the blank radio stations with a logo on my unit just so I don't have those default placeholders

Just because it is a problem for you to multi task does not mean that applies to everyone. I drove for a living for many years and never had an issue with listening to the radio, music or an audio book unlike you seem to. Its a shame that more dont appreciate that by the way you see cars weaving around and varying speeds while drivers are on the phone , eating breakfast and have even seen them with papers on the steering wheel reading as they drive.

Another of my pet hates is drivers when talking to passengers ,have to turn and look at them. You can talk and watch ahead at the same time.
I have a friend who even turns and looks at back seat passengers when talking to them. I wont go with him any more as hes dangerous.

Also I didnt criticize anyone I asked a question if it was sensible and it isnt.

Best not play Bolero either. Sorry but Ive set my reasons out in post above and stick by them.

I drove buses for years and hated it when passengers tried to engage in conversation when I was trying to deal with traffic, very off putting,similar like trying to listen to a person reading to you and you concentrating on that and secondly driving.

Seems they have catered to Euro stuff where it is connected externally and can update maps etc via that and nothing else.

You will just have to stick with a Kindle attached to your steering wheel and dont read while going around corners LOL

OK, Radio. same thing, apart from/weather/ traffic report, can become involved listening in latest news report, opinions etc. etc.

I totally agree, which is why I turn off radio, and listen to sat nav only, especially in Sydney traffic.

Eating breakfast? that's really pushing the envelope. Have to admit a packet of supermarket chips in lieu of lunch. News papers NO. BUT pre sat nav trying to navigate with a street directory on the steering wheel.

Haha just to get you going a bit more I turned 80 last month and can still do point to point times I did years ago, by concentrating on only what Im doing. driving the car. ROFL

Yes my friend who looks at back seat passengers is as bad a passenger as he is a driver and talks with his hands and isnt shy about sticking them in front of my face when describing things. Have had to smack them down at times when I couldnt see because of them.

Seems to me, the label is more important to the content? So does this mean that unless you have prerecorded content on an Apple or Galaxy phone (or equiv), then forget it. This removes the high content of audio books or music recordings available from local library's enjoyment. Important, unlike portable tape players which I plugged into car amplifier, these are now no longer available in any form such as DVD or CD let alone tape!!!

But sadly, it seems I must be prepared to have extra laptop on passenger seat plugged in via usb cable. forget apple play!!!

If you have both phones visible via bluetooth there should be a confirmation screen asking which phone to connect AA to.
Normally it will default to the last phone.
The way we tell is the music/radio app has different stations displayed.

I have no idea about the radio logos but I am interested in now with your post :)
Also can I ask you something?
I have 2021 Tiguan R line too. I hear gear switching when the gear is anywhere in between D1 to D4. It is very noticable and feel the gear shifting when it is either the gear going up or down in between D1 and D4. If I put the gear in reverse it is a bit noisier.
At that time, I feel as if there is a gap in between the next gear. I have 2018 passat R line but I have not notice such thing.
I left the car to the service centre at the vw dealer where I purchased the tiguan from. I explained to them that I did not experienced such a thing with golf, passat even with the t-cross that they gave me to use until the service done for my tiguan.
However, after the service they could not find anything and they said it is normal with this particular model!!!

So my question: Do you have such noise coming from the transmission with bothering level?

The answer is NO to both It simply cant be done at this time except the maps should be able to be done by the dealer.

We pick up a new Skoda tomorrow and dealer told me they will update maps FREE at each service but inbetween will cost $100 and can only be done via their diagnostic software link

"can only be done via their diagnostic software link" - If this is the information coming out of their service department then I would be cautious of their knowledge working with the MIB3.
There is suitable evidence on various VAG forums that the MIB3 is capable of having map updates performed by the owner using the USB-C connection and downloadable maps, without any need to link back to any motherland.

I am talking about the Amundsen units in the upper level Skodas NOT the one you have with the dial controls as you showed in your other posts

With MIB3 the maps are common across both units now they done away with the need for data to be read from a SD card, its all internally loaded on the harddrive.

Has been like that since about 2009 when the RNS 510 was introduced

They said it will come with the latest from when it was built so I said "Well thats not the latest as Ver 97 came out in June while it was on the boat so I want it updated before delivery"

Do you use much of the inbuilt navigation system? I’ve had my maps updated while I went to get a recall addressed. I noticed the turn by turn navigation from apple maps for u turns were not rendering properly after the update.

Which would have nothing to do with the VW maps and they dont upgrade the firmware so shouldnt be any different.

Which would have nothing to do with the VW maps and they dont upgrade the firmware so shouldnt be any different.

Fuel gauge replacement.

I’m no expert, from what I can see uturn doesnt show up on both hud which uses iap2 signalling and dashboard which uses carplay’s dual screen feature.
Same goes to android auto with google maps. U turn aint does not render on both places.

Yes There is no way of doing either them or upgrading the maps ourselves on any variation of the MIB3

I've updated the map myself on my 2021 Tig with a USB C key.
its slow and does it in the background and not obvious its updating, unlike my GTI where it tells you its updating.

Which model of NAV have you got . Maps are mostly the same across both models as my Tig is running ver 97 off the Skoda site

But MIB3 are different in a few ways

I plugged and unplugged the USB key about a dozen times not realizing it was prob updating in the background but I thought it wasn't working as it didn't tell you it was updating.
I originally tried a USB A key with a USB C adapter, tried reformatting the key to NTFA and exFATT, and even went and bought a USB C key. Probably would have worked with the USB A + adaptor if I let it go for long enough time.
