Well, I picked up my 3.2lt V6 4Motion Passat SIlver Wagon DSG yesterday from MCM Sutherland, Sydney.

I used to own a Subaru 3.0R B spec 6 speed manual. Great car but lacked a bit of low end grunt that can make it a bit of a chore to drive in Sydney traffic. Great once you get going, but you need to keep the revs up to get the most out of it. Really, the Suby was characterless.

Delivery:
Arrived at the alotted time of 2:30pm and the car was ready! Surprise, surprise. The salesman went through all the functions and was very informative.

The little things:
These Germans certainly include lots of niceties that really make owning and driving the car that much better. Things like all the progammable functions like blinkers, lights on, the electric park brake, electric tail gate openning, the electronic "key", multi function steering wheel controls. etc.

The sound system is very good for a standard system.

Driving impressions:
Wow, this thing goes!! The DSG really makes it a joy to drive as it makes it easy to drive fast and to get the most out of it. There is just so much seemless power right from take off and when on the move and you kick down a couple of gears it really launches itself away. It is smooth and reasonably quiet, but the exhaust note under a boot full is beautiful to hear, a nice raspy burble.

Handing is good, with a little bit of understeer(as expected) but I hope to get the Haldex alteration done so as to make it more neutral handling. What I like about the Passat is that it is just so much fun to drive.

Overall, this is a much better car than the Subaru, IMO. The low down torque of the 3.2lt V6 makes it a much more driveable proposition in Sydney traffic and married to the DSG, it works like a dream. When you add in the other little nicities that the Germans do, there is really no contest. The carpet and the leather is also nicer in the Passat.

I am one VERY satisfied owner!!!:D

Congrats on the purchase Lance!

I was down at the dealer today and some other lucky person was getting their 3.2 4Motion Sedan in Granite Metallic with sports pack. I was enquiring about a passat for myself.

Thanks for your comments, you car sounds awesome. Now I just have to sell some cars so I can join the happy passat owner club.

I have the same engine in my car and i love it!! As you said, the torque on low revs is amasing! I'll probably get one of those once i decide to settle down and have some kids :) Until then, R32 all the way!

we're meeting liverpool krispy kremes at 10am and then going down to the gong... travelling more or less in a convoy id guess. just a good time to test out the car it should be fun.

Nice Lance, looks identical to mine except I have the 125 kw TDI front wheel drive (same colour) and the 17 in wheels.

My mate has an R32 and it was his car that made me decide to go for the VW Passat V6 rather than stick with Subaru Liberty 3.0R B Spec. I took his R32 for a blast through the Adelaide Hills and loved it, so I can fully understand why you love yours too. Handling, torque, driveability, exhaust note all made up for a great drive.

I initially went to the VW dealer to try out the R32, but it was a little impractical for me as it was too small for my requirements. I then thought about the 125kW diesel wagon, and as good as the diesel was when I drove the V6 4Motion I was blown away. Reminded me very much of the R32 and so my fate was sealed! ;) I have not regretted the decision one bit.

The diesel was my initial thought for the Passat wagon and it is a brilliant drive as it has huge low down torque, but coming from a Subaru 3.0R B spec I am an AWD fan and so the V6 4Motion ended up as the choice.

Sorry I couldn't make the drive guys but I had a few things to attend to on Sunday morn. I hope the day went well for everyone.

I would like to attend the next outing if possible.
