What sort of aerial is it?

Roof or mudguard?

If it is the standard mudguard aerial, it is very easy. Take out the tyre, remove the mudguard lining, just a few screw. Then you can access the nut that secure the aerial, go to any auto-parts shop to get a similar one and put it back in. I did the same 6 months ago.

If it is roof type, I can't help :(

I tried for months to get one from a spare parts shop and couldn't get one as the VW ones are smaller.

I may have one at home.

Can't say this will be an issue if done correctly.

I've had bee sting aerial's in all my car's incl. my mum's current mk2 & have never had rust issue's in over 10 year's & if the power supply is O.K. you should never have a reception issue either. (Note all the aerial's have been the long bee sting version)

Once the hole is drilled (without going straight through into the headliner), clean up the hole swarf & apply some paint to the bare metal, then I packed the underside of the aerial & seal with grease.

Bingo.

Are there any rubber seals or anything available to cover up the existing aerial hole If a bee sting is what people decide to go with?

People who have done the conversion?

Try this number.

It's the factory # for my mk1 with no aerial.

443 821 169

If they no longer have them try burson as I've brought a o-ring/plug kit off them & come in heap's of sizes.

Does anyone know if the Mk1 aerial delete will fit the Mk2? Giving part numbers to my local VW parts joint just confuses them. They start asking me for engine codes and tell me that my car doesnt actually exist etc

If they have it in stock (yeah right  ) I can just order one without them having to worry about if it fits or not :D

If not will give the o-ring/plug kit a shot.

cheers

If your going to keep the guard mounted solution, how about a power antenna! Not speaking from any experience, but I'm sure you could get something to fit, even if it takes some minor dremel action.

I've always been a fan of electic antenna's, but then I'm easily amused :D

Haha, it would amuse me too, but im happy with no antenna for now.

I would suggest this...

Followed by a windscreen-mounted stealth antenna ($35 from ricebarn)

:D

Not as smooth as Golfers finish :D but I got a 16mm rubber Grommit from Clark Rubber, looks like the proper Aerial delete (sorta) and seals the hole nicely, cost me a $1.65 too :o
