I have noticed lately i get a " power consumption is high" in the display for the start stop status. I have never noticed this before. The start stop works ok for most of the time. It mostly happens if there's been a battery drain like when the fans run afterwards when a regen has been interrupted. It could take a good few miles for the message to go afterwards.

Also on some mornings when i start the car i notice the heating steering wheel switches itself on, only happens after a cold start.

Car is 3 years old, a BiTDI 240bhp with an AGM battery with 150,000 km.

I just had a 2.5 year old battery replaced in my Golf 7.5 R-Line. I too had the exact same message come up with the same symptoms. I even asked the service guys to check the start-stop system and battery at the last service, but they say they found no issues. Then, 3 weeks later I noticed a rotten egg smell in the car. When I got home I opened the bonnet and found the battery was boiling and steaming. I rang VW's roadside assist service who replaced the the battery under warranty. Here in Australia this battery normally costs $A423. Ouch!

Was your heating steering wheel turning on by itself too? Was it an AGM battery?

No heated steering wheels in Australian models.
Diesels usually have AGM's here in Australia.
All others are EFB's.

Yes mate...

Your battery is the original battery installed from the factory floor.
You can no longer purchase that battery, so if you are looking for a replacement it would be the following VW Part Number; OEM: Varta – 000 915 105 CC (AGM Start-Stop) 70Ah 420A 700A

For your info, 7P0 915 105 AGM is in my Passat too...

Interestingly 000 915 105 CC is coming up with the same spec 68ah 680 A when i do a search.

I got the “power consumption is high” message for approx 20 miles today. There should have been no reason for it, all longish runs today. There seems to be a pattern to it. It seems to come out of the blue maybe once a week. Then it would be fine for the rest of the week. . I plug VCDS in when i get the power consumption message and the SOC was low in the 60s % range. It then recovers back to the 80% - 90% range until a week later it drops again for no reason into the 60s hence stop start gets disabled and the power consumption is high returns. Would a faulty battery do this i wonder?

Might be better off going to a local battery tester. Does sound like a difficult start. Could be due to the cold as well
