My MY16 Passat's brake pad indicator light is on now, what is the typical cost of replacing the front brake pads? I am planning to do it at VW Village.

Yes, I just knew this too. I am going to sell my car in a couple of weeks, now I have to change it before selling it, ugh. I got quoted for $650 (front pads and rotor), $310 for front pads only. Seems expensive? I was looking at brembo pads and rotor on sparebox for $250. $400 labour seems expensive? Unless VW oem parts cost more.

Tempted to just do pads since I am going to sell it and just need to get rid of the brake pad light.

Here is a start; Genuine Brakes | Volkswagen Australia (https://www.volkswagen.com.au/en/owners/genuine-parts/genuine-brakes.html)

I am also looking into this for my Alltrack, except I am lookinng at ATE components.

This might help you;

ATE Brakes: (Front 312mm / Rear 300mm)
Front Rotors: Article №: 24.0125-0158.1
Front Pads: Article №: 13.0470-2785.2 (Ceramic)
Rear Rotors: Article №: 24.0112-0210.1
Rear Pads: Article №: 13.0470-7294.2 (Ceramic)

Thanks for that. VW website says $275 for pads, I thought VW village would be cheaper than dealers. I might do it at the dealer while my car is checked for sunroof noise, again.

I'd be really surprised if VW will do front brakes for $275 without upselling rotors as well.

BrakesDirect prices

312mm rotors:
DBA plain face rotors $91 each.
Brembo pads $94. (several other options at similar price)

230mm rotors:
DBA plain face rotors $140 ea
brembo pads $130; DBA pads $110

I'll fit them for $200. i'm in Erskineville

No receipt, sorry. Backyarder these days. Semi-retired mechanic that specialised in brakes and suspension when i was on the tools many years back.

"MY16 Passat" doesn't give me much to go on. I'd assume they are 312mm but that would need to be confirmed. You would buy the parts. I would fit them.

Hi Brad,
Do you still do this?
I have a 2017 B8 Passat (comfortline), that's in need of some new pads and rotors (quite rusted). Any recommendations for gear? Ideally rotors that don't get rusty after a wash on the areas where the brakes don't scrape it off.
Also wondering what new coloured callipers would cost. Like the aesthetic of it, but would only do it if not super expensive. Also saw covers exists. Is that a terrible idea?
Cheers mate,
Jez
