Well i can provide 1st hand feedback of an APR tune on the same engine (although in a Mk7 Golf R) as a friend of mine owns one. Stock the car was brisk at best but felt restricted. After the stage 1 tune the car was genuinely much faster, i believe they quote around 60kw and 100nm gain over stock. He has now progressed onto the stage 2 tune (with intake and down pipe) and is basically at the safe limit of the stock turbo now.

The increase in power was certainly noticeable from stock to stage 1. It goes from being a brisk car to genuinely being a quick car. The size of the turbo on the 206kw 2.0TSI engine has quite a bit of headroom available for power increases up to around the 300kw mark. Its a much larger turbo than the one fitted to the Mk6 R.

since the post i have reached out to a couple of dealers/tuners who have come back with a power figure of 283kw and 555nm.

he went on to also tell me that the engine and drive line is the same as the MK7.5R.... plenty of headroom.

might have to document a thread on the build.. seems like not a lot of documentation from a performance POV.

cheers

Yes it is the same engine/turbo and driveline as the Mk7 R.

I guess most Arteon buyers are after the grown up luxury car aspect of the vehicle, not so much a modification aspect.

Please keep us notified. I’d love to see results of the stage 1 tune. I’m thinking of doing the same.

In the process of booking it in.. im going APR stage 1 as stated 283kw but numbers and dyno are one thing real world is another

ive felt what it did to my mates 7.5 R, he has R600 intake and res-delete so she sounds real good and quiet the shove.

has out run a few cars (C63s, Stock FL RS3 and Cayman GTS) and logged a 12.035 on 1/4.

Don't just delete the middle resonator on the Arteon. Trust me. It'll sound pretty ordinary. You'll need to do more than that to get the exhaust sound you're after.

See here: Arteon Exhaust Mods (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f248/arteon-exhaust-mods-123325.html)

thanks for the write up mate you're a champion!

it appears it may be a case of throwing a proper cat back on to generate sound..?

what i would like is a bit more pops and farts... the investigation continues for now.

Yeah - go a proper cat-back, or change the 2 rear mufflers. You'd probably have a lot more success even leaving the middle resonator in, but changing the rear mufflers to straight through types (if you didn't want to go through the expense of a whole new cat-back system).

Can I ask, around how much does it cost to do a stage 1 tune?

nickbeh

Hey Mate

I've been quoted 1499 not sure what everyone else is quoting...?

Daaaamn that's good value! If I didn't have to throw the keys back at VW in 2.5yrs I'd seriously consider this. Unfortunately for me, they want the car back as is (factory).

Im sure they can wipe the file back to stock?

now the decision is do i get an R600 intake as well?

this is dangerous!

Superchips has a EOFY sale on at the moment which makes a stage 1 tune very good value. The numbers aren't as big as the APR tune, but the price is far more attractive: Volkswagen Arteon 206 TSI R-Line Stage 1 ECU tune from Superchips Australia. (https://www.superchips.com.au/vehicle/volkswagen-ecu-tuning-remapping/volkswagen-arteon-206-r-line-ecu-tune-remap.html)

Also with a tune like the Superchips, you have the hand controller so you can put the car back to stock if ever needed, and if/when you sell the car you can have the hand controller reset and either use it on your next car or sell it.

Nearly 250kw for $700 or 4 interest-free payments of $175.00

Haha wonder if they'd notice it's been remapped if I took it into the dealer for servicing?

Thanks Lucas you're a legend! that is great value for sure i paid close to 900 a while back..

I've used Superchips on my MK6 and i found it very mild/vanilla IMO. Gives you a great nudge but if you ask me to go again... i would save the extra money and go the full remap.

Hey All

The time has finally come and what do i have to say!

What a DIFFERENCE this is how this car should have been delivered from VW!!

I did do some 0-100 times pre and post tune

Pre Stage 1
1. 5.4
2. 5.2
3. 5.33
4. 5.13

APR Stage 1
1. 4.3
2. 4.0
3. 4.1

Now - 283KW 500NM

Lets just say very happy and satisfied, if youre thinking of doing it...DO IT!

Pretty impressive difference in before and after times. What did you use to record times?
Was this ECU Tune only? Have you done intake or exhaust?

I used drag racer app. No supporting mods just the Tune.

Car is a dream to drive now gives you the confidence it should have when overtaking and zipping in and out of traffic

Congrats on the tune.

Thanks for sharing your findings. Let us know how you feel after living with it for a few months.

What's the point of bragging about 0 to 100 times, peak power and nm's if the car drives like a pig? I am talking to Gav HW100 moderator on here who tunes for UGP in Melbourne who focus on drivability and great power and NM's for $1500.
Cheers Call me Al

No sure where that statement that the car drives like a Pig would eventuate from my previous post????

You talking from experience champ? or that your just an APR hater..but what i will say is the price is actually the same between the two and i have nothing but fantastic feedback with the tune and APR's service and will continue to recommend to all.

With reference to the Car.. it is responsive and pulls HARD all the way through redline in all the gears- then flick it back to Drive and it's the usual Arteon you would expect.

End of the day..its preference and what's convenient time and time again.

I'd say 0-100 times and dyno graphs are the most useful information to put on a forum. It's hard to compare real world gains with subjective thoughts on driveability.

There is always a healthy competitiveness amongst tuners who will focus on different results and put the boot into the big players - comes with the territory. Likewise there will always be critics of out-of-the-box vs dyno vs street tunes.

G'day nickbeh

Anymore updates on your APR tune?

I'm considering that or the ABT... VW Arteon - ABT Sportsline (https://www.abt-sportsline.com/vw-tuning/vw-arteon/#35257072!993C252)

Your input appreciated!

Hey mate

Tune is still solid and the car hasn't missed a beat!

Looking at the ABT vs APR the figures are much lower unless it's at the wheels?

APR just release the Stage2 so I'm waiting to see the stability and may go:
DP
Res-Delete
Intake

I got Stage 1 APR from Annangrove (now Castle Hill). Was around $1300 for memory. Very happy with it.
Since then have DP and res delete. One post before mention the tinniness of this but goes after a while when it carbons up.
