I stumbled across this K & N panel filter, part number 33-2920. According to K & N it is meant to be the panel filter for the 1.4L and 1.6L 9N Polo's. Is there any confirmation on whether or not this is a legitimate panel filter to suit the 1.6L? From what I can judge of the enlarged photos, this seems to fit the bill of all the characteristics of the current factory filter.

This isnt a stocked item in Australia, but if this IS the panel filter for the 9N, then I think this might be a cheap performance mod that might not give significant gains, but may help the car run better and more efficiently (and it's not as if it doesnt run efficiently now:D).

As you stated it may not give you much more POWER, but it should give you better throttle response. I guess the 1.6 is the same as any other Normally aspirated motor, in that if you upgrade the intake AND exhaust it should give you a little bit of power. Have a look and see if any O/S companies make extractors. even a cat back exhaust would help.

I don't mind a Pipercross. Had 1 in my VR6.

Is it still a foam filter and how much ?

Yes it's a foam filter.

Sorry don't know the price. Was already in the car when I bought it that's why I posted the 2nd link.

Good thing about the foam filters is the absence of any oil. No chance of affecting the MAF.

Personally I don't believe the oiled filters (K&N, BMC etc) will affect the MAF anyway.

Has anyone who has bought a K&N filter for their polo GTI recently still got the product code? The code KN33-2920 above is different to the one that a guy at Autobarn gave me last week which was KN33-2830?

I am wanting to purchase one but want to make sure i get the right one.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

According to this site K&N (http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx) The correct filter is 33-2830. And again Here http://www.knfilters.com/search/applications.aspx?Prod=33-2830

It seems the 33-2830 is for the GTI / TDI (thanks sharkie)
where 33-2920 is for 1.4L and 1.6L

33-2830 is what I have installed.

Also will fit the 1.9TDI

Correct, as this thread was originally created when we were searching for a panel for Justin's 1.6 - we've since fitted a pod.

As said many times before on various threads here.....

Unless you find a way to feed cold air to the pod and shield it properly, after 25mins of running it sucks in hot air and power drops off noticably.

I experimented and tried various ways of doing a pod and eventually gave up as air intake temp got too high .... Feel the inside of the left fender after 25mins of running and see how hot it gets. Not enough airflow in the Polo engine bay to make it worthwhile.

Can anyone confirm whether this will fit a 6R GTI? Orange tuning have it listed under 6R 1.4lt, so i assume it should.

No, it won't... It appears that K&N haven't released an air filter for the 6R Polo GTI yet...
