Hello everyone,

I topped up the wrong oil between service, only 1L though. I used 5w-30 Castrol edge (502/505) instead of the LL version (504/507). My engine is 132tsi petrol.

Is this safe? Should I put the right oil now or wait until the next service?

Thanks in advance.

If it's wrong oil, you need to flush out and inspect ASAP.

I top up the oil in dealership, all free.

Good luck.

Free from any dealer? Last time I went to a dealer, they asked me to buy the oil.

Both free man.

Don’t panic, nothing catastrophic is going to happen.

how many km or months until the next service?

I am at 54k, so 6k more. I do about 20k a year, so in 3 months I am due for service.

Well I only tried Chatswood and since it was not free, I assumed everywhere else is not free either.

Never been to NS VW but heard it was not great.

It is the same dealership as the Parramatta Denlo.

How come two different policies?

just drive the thing. Although I can’t be bothered checking the owners manual in my wife’s car (same powertrain as yours) it would probably say something about the oil spec you used being perfectly fine, at the expense of losing the extended service interval.

generally speaking, the higher spec is used in order to gain extended drain intervals.

502.00 is fine.

502.00 is the minimum spec for fixed interval services. Australia doesn't do variable / LL service.
Look in your service manual

It's only diesels equipped with DPF that 507.00 is mandatory.

As above - using 1L of 502 spec oil is perfectly fine. Don't even worry about it.

I thought VW use Long Life oil which is okay longer service interval (in Europe). I think oil wise it should be okay, the guy service it every 17k km. Only 2k more

Just take the advice given as its correct despite what you may think.

You asked for advice and now you question it.

Read your manual. It's all there.

If you don't understand the manual then take the advice given to you.

Why are you stretching the services to 17k? The service intervals in Australia are 12m/15k, whichever comes first. If you know anything about the difference between Australia and Europe in dust and pollen loadings and temperature variations you would understand why.

It is very likely that you are meeting one of the "severe service conditions" and therefore stretching the service intervals would be inappropriate. It's all in the manual. Go crazy, have a read.

f the OP cares to read his manual in the section about "Oil" it tells you to refer to the body sticker which is in the front of the service book in my car and it tells you which regime its under

EG MIne says Q14 which is "fixed service regime" as are ALL VW in Australia

Wow $30 for a litre of oil ?
I bought 5 litres of the 504/507 LL from Supercheap for $45 a few weeks back.

Yes, that $45 was on special price. 1L should be like $20, and according to someone here, it should be free to top up at dealer.

Why should the dealer give you free oil Once perhaps if the car is new

.
Working on that theory Woolworths should top up my groceries for free as well.

I got 10L of Titamium LL 504/507 for $75 a few eeeks ago because I found an ad online and shop honoured it even though it was possibly a mistake
