German market kicks off from 39,625€ ($57,500) to 64,130€ ($93,080) for fully optioned 206TSI. Bi-Tdi adds another 2,250€ ($3,265) on top of 206TSI. If you live in the EU, it's worth buying your car from another EU country. Most are cheaper than Germany.

Well well well.... I just got back from a different VW dealership (the one where I always get my car serviced), and it turns out the Arteon IS on the corporate program.

So either this just happened in the last couple of weeks, or the dealership where I went to near my work lied to me. So... manganese grey with sound and style package is $68641 drive away in QLD using the corporate discount.

Terrific price.

After test driving the Arteon, Jaguar XF Sport and BMW 430i M Sport, we put a deposit on the BMW. The Arteon as beautiful as it was we thought was overpriced for a VW, the Jag had too many options as extras such as heated seats and felt like an older person's car (we're still in our 30s), whereas the BMW was still a 4 door coupe with sleek looks, many features as standard and drove beautifully. We didn't get brand new, rather a 3000km ex Executive car for $67300. New one would have cost above $90k.

If the Arteon was low to mid 60s, we would have gone with that.

Do you have any more info on this? I'm in the process of getting firm quotes for a Manganese Grey one (I finally decided to get the Arteon over the Superb) and they're trying to sell me one which is currently in stock, as oppose to one which is coming on a boat landing in January.

No other news unfortunately!... What type of pricing you getting?

$68400 is the best so far - manganese grey + sound & style. No sunroof. I thought about the sunroof but my last 2 cars have had them, and in QLD - I really only have them open in winter.

I've go an appointment with the accountant tomorrow and then I'll do one last round between the dealers to see if I can get it a hundred or two cheaper, or maybe tinting thrown in or something, then I'll pull the trigger.

Also found this if (like me), you've been having trouble picking a colour: Volkswagen Arteon Colour Guide with Prices - Stable Vehicle Contracts (https://www.stablevehiclecontracts.co.uk/blog/volkswagen-arteon-colour-guide/)

Looks like they get more colours overseas than what we get here in Australia.

And the contract is signed! Manganese Grey with Sound & Style package. I should get it late Jan/early Feb as it's still on its way.

Managed to get an even better deal and nabbed this one for $67900 drive away.

Yep. I think corporate discount and then some. The first dealer I went to only gave me the corporate discount and that was the $68641 price.

That's a decent price - I wonder if it's this one with >5,500km? 2017 Volkswagen Arteon 206TSI R-Line 3H Auto 4MOTION MY18 (https://www.carsales.com.au/demo/details/Volkswagen-Arteon-2017/OAG-AD-15343278/?Cr=2)

If I wasn't planning to buy a Passat for my wife soon, it'd be tempting to get one. I think it'll be another year or two by the time I replace my R36 now - hopefully there's a V6 option by then (or better still, an electric sports coupe).

lol! some dealers are still trying to charge $75-80K for them, even for demonstrators.
Especially given they are $69K drive-away on the VW site, with Sound & Style package: VW Special Offers | Car Deals & Discounts | Volkswagen Australia (https://au.volkswagen.com.au/offers-pricing/hatches-sedans/arteon)

Rooboy

that's the one - I'm guessing you could still lower that price a bit more.

Looks like the rrp of new arteons has been reduced by vw Australia
eg in Sydney drive away is $68990 - with sound and style pack. Brand new MY18. Metallic extra.

few for sale now just below 60k, compared to nearly 80k at launch.

did vw over step the mark on their perceived price segment? Could be argued yes.

its a great car, extremely well equipped and I definitely would like one, but considering you can't really option the interior/wheels (aside from s&s pack), not option out the rline fittout, or even maybe a have second engine/drivetrain option, this method may simplify stock management, but not quite be what people at this level of purchase are after.

Just my2c, open to conversation

This isn't too shocking. The car is definitely worth $70k.

I think a lot of people will think "why not get a Passat?", In my case there were 2 huge factors:

The Passat isn't wide enough
The Arteon looks less like a family car and more Grand Turismo

We went to the dealer to buy a Tigaun and came home with this.

I would say end of financial year also has something to do with prices falling at the moment. Dealers wanting to flush stock and go for a push to round out the year. Full RRP on the VW website is still nearly $80k with all options. Also $68990 with S&S but no metallic is still up there in terms of price. Mine was $67900 with S&S and metallic back in December.

You did well there. I got an ex demo (Dealer Principal's car) for only slightly less without the sunroof and double your Kms. Nice work

cheers, hopefully it will take a little bit of the sting from the brutal depreciation to follow- especially if a 300W version appears in 2019!

Was that a 2017 build car as that’s a pretty amazing price for 2018 plate.

2018 registration and warranty is set from January 2018, however I think the build date was in 2017 (haven't actually checked) which is why I managed to get it for the price I did.

I was just lucky I think, went in at the right time, I told them I was planning on buying the demo except they then sold it less than 24 hours prior to me coming back in to finalise the payment.

Also, I'm a cripple, I use a walking stick so people generally feel sorry for me hahahahaha.

Trading in a MY11 3C Passat TDI helped as did paying the remainder in cash, no finance.

That was from Ringwood Volkswagen (Ringwood, Victoria), so if any of you are planning on upgrading, I have no problems if you want to negotiate using my purchase as leverage. I'll scan a copy of the purchase contract for anyone who requests it if you think it will give you an advantage.

Yeah, thanks mate. I think someone nailed it in a previous post that VW over stepped the pricing and segment upon the initial release of the Arteon.

Truth be told, I was dismissive of the Arteon as a Passat in a fancy suit and nothing more ... until I drove it last week. The Passat 206TSI underpinnings are certainly there and instantly recognisable, but the Arteon makes for a more responsive, agile and dynamic driving experience. Not to mention being a real head turner!

Is it worth the killer depreciation on a 1.5 year old 206TSI Passat? Probably not, but you only live once!

2018 build (new). White, S&S + Sunroof. $65,490 in NSW.

I wouldn't have minded a demo, but oddly enough it was very hard to negotiate a price I was happy with considering some tidy figures on carsales.

Very happy with this price point, especially after considering an Audi A5. The Arteon just has every bit of tech crammed into it and certainly looks the part.

I quite liked Clarkson's write up of the styling:

Usually, when I come out of the office, I’m in a rush and I’m distracted by whatever small annoyance James May has created that day, so I don’t spend a lot of time walking round whatever car’s turned up, stroking my chin. I just drive off.

But with the Arteon, my shoes made a comedic squeaking noise as I came to an abrupt halt. It quite literally stops you in your tracks, not because of the wide grille that makes the car look lower and more ground-hugging than is the case, or the four pillarless doors, or the in-your-face mustard paint job. No. It’s the way all these things line up behind a big Beastie Boys VW badge. This, then, is not Crocs with tassels. It’s Crocs made from the softest Swedish leather, and fitted with diamonds and pearls.

Wish I'd stopped reading his write up at that point! It doesn't sound like he drove the 'R' version which is a pity, I wonder if he would have taken quite a different view.

2017 Arteon, MY18
Manganese Grey
S&S and Sunroof
5577km on the ODO

Was a VAG car, probably a media review vehicle judging by the rego plate sequence. In great new condition. $57,999.50 no more to pay including warranty extension to Sept 2021 (apparently factory with no obligation to service it at VW dealership but we will confirm this week) and the NSW RMS transfer of $2005.95 included.

Those two items were $2555.95 so I got the car itself for $55443.55. Fair deal for a car just on a year old with 5577km. Happy with the deal. Just need to get the front windows tinted as the dealer wanted $400 for what is a $150 job at most...
