Is there a "best way" to get the 10 colours palette with VCDS? A total guidance?

Tweak: Colour Change in AID
Vehicle: Passat B8 206TSI R-Line MY17 (AUS)
Tweak completed with OBDEleven, should work with VCDS, but may be slightly different on newer cars (My18s)

Not sure if all the below needs to be done, but these are the settings on my car and it works.

Control unit: 5F Information Control Unit
Adaptations:
Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2: menu_display_ambient_illumination: activated
Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2: menu_display_ambient_illumination_over_threshold_h igh: activated

Control unit: 17 Dash Board

Tube_version: variant_4

Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
Adaptations:
Ambientelicht Farbliste: Rotwert Farbe 1: 144
Ambientelicht Farbliste: Gruenwert Farbe 1: 24
Ambientelicht Farbliste: Blauwert Farbe 1: 28
Change all colours up to 10, none can be R: 0, G: 0, B: 0 as none will work
I got the numbers for RGB from MS Excel (format cell > fill), but from other posts, Create Color Schemes, Test Color Combinations - Colorspire (https://www.colorspire.com/) will give the same result.
Pick what colours you like, find the RGB, enter those numbers into Rewert (Red), Gruenwert (Green) and Blauwert (you guessed it, Blue)
My favourite colour is Maroon, so R, G, B is 144, 24, 28, but need to lighten the colour up a bit.

I also have the below settings active, again, not sure if they need to be or not, but they work.

Control unit: 09 Central Electrics

Interior light, light configuration: Frei_Farbwahl_ueber_HMI: active

Cold Boot MIB Unit
Hold down left button for 10 seconds (or so)
Wait for restart
Reset Background Lighting Setting in MIB
with MIB on, goto the below;
Menu > Vehicle > Settings > Factory Reset > Background Lighting > Reset

Then you can go into Menu > Vehicle > Settings > Background Lighting
You should have 10 colours at the bottom to choose from, select a colour, and both the MIB and AID change to that colour. If not, there may be a 3 colour small box to the right at the bottom. This doesn't change the Interior Door Lights, as on mine, they are just white.

I've seen a couple of people on all forums have dramas with this, so thought i'd try to figure it out. Some of this is lifted from other guys posts, zloybob (via NZ_GolfR), so thanks.

I'm certainly no expert on all this stuff, but this is a cool tweak, and hope this helps.

What I did with obdeleven but it will only allow you to change colour, if you want the different dials or the balls in the Center of the AID then they are different adaptions (but a lot easier than colour change)

Central electronics
Adaptions

I then reset the mmi by pressing and holding the on/off button for 10 seconds then went into car/settings then checked the "background lighting" button was in there, pressed it and checked it went on to a picture of the interior of the car, then

Yes, I know - even on my Ambient Plus edition the door strips and footwell are only white. They can not change colour.

I am thinking about the strip running through the doors at the top and in the front of the dashboard. Can one code them to have all the ten colours instead of the one white only?

Vehicle: Passat B8 206TSI R-Line MY17 (AUS)
Tweak completed with OBDEleven, should work with VCDS, but may be slightly different on newer cars (My18s)

Not sure if all the below needs to be done, but these are the settings on my car and it works.

Control unit: 5F Information Control Unit
Adaptations:
Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2: menu_display_ambient_illumination: activated
Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2: menu_display_ambient_illumination_over_threshold_h igh: activated

To get the cool dials in the AID

Control unit: 17 Dash Board
Adaptations:
Display depiction: Version 3

Adaptations:
Int. light, 2nd generation: weicher Farbwechsel: active
Int. light, 2nd generation: Instrumententafelbeleuchtung mehrfarbig: active
Int. light, 2nd generation: Mittelkonsolenbeleuchtung mehrfarbig: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambiente_Applikationsleisten_in_Instrumententafel: installed
Interior light, light configuration: Mittelkonsolenbeleuchtung: installed
Interior light, light configuration: LIN-Dachkonsole lokal aktivierbar: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambientemenue mit globalem aus: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambientemenue mit alle Zonen: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambient_Farbliste_HMI: active
Interior light, light configuration: Frei_Farbwahl_ueber_HMI: active

Cold Boot MIB Unit
Hold down left button for 10 seconds (or so)
Wait for restart
Reset Background Lighting Setting in MIB
with MIB on, goto the below;

Doesn't change the door lights on my MY16 passat r, does teh door light only work on certain cars?

Does this work on MY16 Passat?

ive done the 10 colours on the dash but can't get the LED door lights to work. I can't figure out whether its just no possible or I missed a step on my MY16 passat. Im assuming if you get one you should get the other, any help would be great

Anyone managed to get a white to properly work on the Arteon? Tried 255,255,255 and it made the dash white but the ambient lighting a slight purple colour. Put the default white back, but the dash is actually blue in that one.

I really want both white and cannot work out how to do it.

There’s a bit more added to the ambient lights mod @goublin

I don't have ambient lights in MY GTI Performance pack edition but I do have a Discover Pro with the Virtual Cockpit and would like to be able to change the colours on the Virtual Cockpit..... I assume it should work despite not having ambient lights (this version of car comes with permanent red led lights in the door) has anyone else tested this with out having the door and footwell colour changing lights.

Yes I have a golf with standard white lights in the doors/foot wells works perfect on just the MMI and AID, if you had the colour changing LEDs then this mod would already be done by VW at the factory

Sure Jap, What do you need?

I'm slowly working my way through the list and getting stuff happening. Learning the VCDS tweaks etc. I've got the Hex-NET from Ross-tech btw.

Most cars have only single colour(white) in the door panels. I have read in other places that the LED strips need more wiring and are a different model to what is normally in AUS models so you are probably pushing brown stuff uphill with a rake trying to get them to change

Yeah if they're not physically RGB led light strips, you won't be able to change the colours using software. You can possibly retrofit RGB strips in there, but then you need to weight up the cost vs risk vs reward triangle.

Being in Sydney - you might have better luck posting in this thread: VAG-COM scanning, who can help (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f153/vag-com-scanning-who-can-help-27504.html) - someone down that way should be able to help you out.

Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie here. Got myself a 2017 Passat 132 comfortline with the R line package.

I am looking for a few upgrades:

Starting with getting the ambient lighting installed in my car, reading the thread I feel it can be done however it will be great if someone can guide where can source the pen ambient lighting kit.

Next looking for the led headlights, but will post this on another thread.

Some vehicles have the ability to change colours in ALL areas others can only do it in the dashboard as the door and floor strips do NOT have the required wiring , correct led's or modules to run them.

A lot of work for SFA advantage.. Also suggest you look up relevant ADR rules about retro fitting LED headlights ans they may not be legal in your model

Thank you Hillbilly, I am actually thinking of not going for the led matrix headlights considering this will hamper with the warranty.

Ambient lighting looks like a easy one, I am planning to buy obdeleven but tell me guide me here, I don’t think my car came with the hardware fitted on the door panels and the dashboard however the car has the footwell lighting and It also does not show any option on the background lighting in the indash discovery pro system.

In the Tiguans we can only change the dash lighting in 10 colours, the doors and footwells dont However it seems some Arteon models can do more and up to 30 colors.

Why you would bother is another thing though

It is a simple coding with an OBD11 but is equally easy to stuff things up if you dont know what you are doing After you run it the color chart shows up in" lighting" in your MMI

Thank you again, I will try the obdeleven tool but to be honest I have no idea about it’s working, I don’t know if anyone can help me with this in Sydney, I mean we can try it in my car, if it works I will go buy the tool.

Exactly - why bother!?!?
I find 10 plenty enough, hence why I didn't bother enabling the 30 colours, which is also possible on the Superb.

I think I could not explain my query properly, the MMI in my car does not have interior lighting option, I don’t think it has the optional ambient lighting as it did not come equip with the luxury pack, I was looking to install the ambient lighting if I could do that.

What I understood from your reply is that hardware is always installed however I only need to turn it on by doing some coding through obdeleven tool. If that is not correct can you or some one help me find the hardware for purchase or someone who could do the retrofit for me.

Does your car have the LED strips in it and no we didnt meant that but some do and some dont Depends on how much money you spent LOL
If the car has the LED strips a coding change will possibly allow it. If it doesnt it would be big money to put new door trims and door sill trims plus all the wiring. just to get pretty lights which are only on when you open the doors.

I didnt even notice them when I first bought the car and wasnt till about a week later when i opened a door in the dark I noticed the strips.

They only show up as very fine strips of not very usable light and not something I would spend money and all the work to install.

The footwell lights dont change in ours either

I don’t think the car has the led strips in it as it came without the luxury pack. I feel there is not much that I can upgrade in the car. What do you recommend, I have a 2017 b8 comfortline with the r line package.

Hello, I’ve got a mk7 64 plate high-line with Aid and Mib2 retrofitted. By reading in this thread I figured out to get the slider for adjusting the light brightness ( footwell-door cards) but I can’t adjust separate like used to be on mib, just to adjust footwell and door cards together . What I really want is to match the Aid colour with my mib2 but can’t find farbliste_hmi option in Vcds.
ATM i can only adjust the brightness on footwell and door cards together. Sorry for my English. Thanks a lot. I can’t see an option to upload a photo.

Based on what I have read so far, if i have the lowest ambient package (only white-coloured door strip) on my Passat MY2016, this means that my led is 1-colour and it cannot be changed via obd11?

Is my understanding correct?

Is my understanding correct? We are in same boat. I already checked required parts for this job (installing ambient light inside passat). Apparently, we have only white, so all door trim and trim above infotainment centre required replacement + wiring box + labour = 5K.
So, I just give up on that and make new goal: my next car will be Arteon [emoji4]
