Hi

My dealer wants to service my B8 every 15,000 kms however the owners manual says it should be closer to 30000kms or 12months unless the car tells me earlier via the dashboard.

Are VW Australia trying to over service the car and my wallet or is the owners manual incorrect??

I just got my first service at 22000 as told by the car. They want the next one at 35000.

In Australia, the service intervals for all VW passenger cars is 15,000kms, or 12 months. Whichever comes first. Has been this way since the late '90s.

There is a possibility that the settings in the dash are wrong.

Thanks for the reply.

I still don't understand why the car service intervals are greater overseas. Its the same 40 tdi here as in Europe so why can they drive up to 30000km between a service and we can only do 15000km here?

If I was to hazard a guess it would be due to our climate. There have been numerous instances of VAG vehicles being detuned due to ours being considered a hot weather climate and I guess the reduced distance between services is an extension of that.

Audi?s hot hatch detuned for Australia (http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/audis-hot-hatch-detuned-for-australia-20130710-2ppa3.html)

The specified oil will run out to 30,000klms, however should a non-specified oil be used, the engine may not fare too well at that sort of interval. It's a backside-covering thing.

Besides, if you chose to service it at 30K intervals in this market, things may not work out too well for you, should you lodge a warranty claim on anything mechanical.
