Yes the pipes are on the same level as the back bumper. The bumper though, obscures the view of the pipes unless you look under. Here is my 162TSI parked on the top of my fairly steep driveway. You can see the bumper and the exhaust.

I'm still trying to learn the tech, but overall I'm really impressed with the car and so far has exceeded my expectations. Aesthetically appealing, power wise, could be better - but that's me comparing it to an actual MK7 GTI which I shouldn't. In saying that, it's still going to make you smile when you give it a bit of a squirt. Can't really comment on the handling just yet as I've only been able to drive around motorways and suburban streets.

I'm sure you won't be be disappointed!!

Current daily drive is a 2004 X-trail, so going to be a fair bit more power than I'm used to, keen on the tech as I love my gadgets, still haven't seen a 162tsi R-line up close only a 140tdi. Down to counting weeks, 6 until it arrives in the country, then a matter of days until I pick her up after the months of waiting, don't know how the guys who ordered last year waited so long..... :)

Well I didn't see/test any R Lines at all when I ordered back in Oct last year, not available yet. I was going into it blind. Then TDIs slowly trickling through and eventually the 162TSI. Aesthically the only difference between the 140TDI and 162 TSI is the TSI have the Trapezoidal chrome exhaust tips (purely cosmetic), whilst the TDI have the twin/dual exhaust. Also, having a little boy in between made it slightly more bearable! haha

But I feel your pain, I was checking the shipping website almost daily!

Paint protection is subjective and it's obviously upto you. However, personally think it's worth the money I spent. Product aside, consideration was also made as to how it was applied and by whom.

In any case, I was always going to get paint protection done despite some negative feedback by others.

Black side mirrors & I think also the RLine badge on the side..Looks really good

Correct, but no prize sorry. I used Plasti Dip to do it, probably not the best job in the world as it is the first time I have ever used the stuff but it is pretty forgiving. It has 4 coats of the standard black on it at the moment, will probably do another thicker cost to get a nice smooth finish then I have a can of the Gloss coat that I want to apply to make it look like the black in the front bumper just ran out of time to do it.

I had thought about trying to so like the Satin silver the on the MK7 Golf R but I actually liked the black on the MK6 Golf R I used to have and thought it would go better with the car. On saying that though while I was washing the car this morning I noticed there is a satin silver strip running across the top of the light and grill so if I could match that it might look pretty good. Good thing about this stuff is I can always peal it off and start again.

It was just the side mirrors, I didn't do the R-Line badge as I like the look of that, it is just from the angle of the photo.

The secret to plasti dip is to apply several light coats .It is very durable but will do need maintenance/re apllication if you keepp hitting it with the high pressure washer .
Mr sheen works well on it for a satin shine.

I have used it many times on my bike with great results.

I saw a white one on the UK forum site that came with black mirrors for reason and thought it looked much better. This along with no rear badges I feel makes this look at lot more unique and understated.

I have used it many times on my bike with great results.

It is too bad a finish just not totally smooth although having never seen or done it before I am not totally sure exactly how smooth it gets:

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/05/c3b79f7f8858e33222b5c421dd51c380-3.jpg

Ignore the colour, the phone camera makes it look a purple tinge but it is black.

I was watching the YouTube videos from DipYourCar for the Gloss Coat after I had done the black (probably should have watched before hand [emoji16]) and they seem to get the best results by applying a thick wet coat which then dries much smoother. I was doing more lighter coats as I was worried it would run like normal spray paint. I might try applying another coat of black a bit thicker next time before applying a gloss coat.

You are right about the gloss been applied heavy/wet .
The finish on your mirrors is not too bad.It is a rubber product designed to be removed so it will have a heavier "orange peel " than any normal paint.

Tungsten Silver, DAP, Sunroof, Towbar, Roof racks, rear blinds and cargo liner.

Sweet ride Bradtiguan!!!

I have ordered the same minus the sunroof, tow bar and roof racks.

Great color choice. For me it was a toss up between Tungsten and Indium Grey. Your pics confirm for me I made the right choice.

Please post more pics to help make the wait more bearable. October is a long way off for me.

Enjoy the ride and share your experiences with us.

Always good to see pictures with child seats as we will run into the same thing. We are hoping to fit 2 forward facing seats next to each other (one on middle seat and one on one of the side seats) and still have enough room for someone to sit on the other seat.

Two next to each other would not work too well at all. I tried to sit in between the two car seats and I had to move them to fit in. The centre one would be off kilter.

If I were to consider the Golf R wagon, I'd probably end up in either a Passat 206TSI R-Line, or the Skoda Superb 206 (which is arguably better than the Passat).

Interestingly I had a short list of 3 x cars to try, before settling on the Tiguan. I really fancied the Passat 206 and the local dealer had a gorgeous fully optioned Indium grey wagon, but to be honest I was a little underwhelmed by it. Perhaps it was because it was so new, just a couple of 000km on the clock, but you could have fooled me there was 206kw under the bonnet. That did include getting it in S mode and flooring it a couple of times. But the interior and overall look of the car was awesome, but was put to one side because of the underwhelming feel and the side bolsters of the front seats felt uncomfortable to me (wrong side of 100kg doesn't help).

The local Skoda dealer had no Superb 206, but was happy to let me try the 162. That demo had around 9k on the clock and they let me drive it alone. That was the most fun I have had on a demo drive in years and I was very impressed with the performance. It was more comfortable for me and performed better than the Passat 206 (could well be a feature of the engine loosening up), but I did feel it was just 1/2 step behind in the interior and a full step behind on looks and that also got it put to one side.

That's how I ended up ordering the 162 Tiguan with the Rline, with the same good looks as the Passat RLine, with hopefully similar performance to the 162 Superb.

Thank you, that is exactly what we were hoping for back in March, when my wife and I specced our yet-to-arrive 140TDI with the Storm Grey interior. The dealership had, at that time, not actually seen a Tiguan with that interior.

I've since seen photos of what we'll be getting. Too much grey! This Europeanised version is much nicer.

And, incidentally, we missed out on an MY18 build by nine days. Bugger!

Yes the silencer might be a similar part number and size but the setup is totally different. The 132TSI has 2 smaller pipes that come out the left hand side while the 162TSI has an exhaust pipe the comes out each side and bends down which are hidden behind the fake exhaust in the bumper. Yo can see here for some photos:

It's an interesting one isn't it, you can get numbers plates by opening your eyes any day of the week. Hey all! New member here.

Got my first VW Tiguan back in March this year, though my purchase is made in Taiwan, where I currently reside and work. Really missing home so I thought I should join up with the Oz Tiguan network, here's a few pics of my 400TDI R-Line (140TDI in Aus)

VW Taiwan decided to remove some parts from R-Line package (which really sucks) - You may observe the steering wheel is not R-Line, not the 20" but the 19" Suzuka rims, no R-line stitching seats, no aluminium sports pedals (Retrofitted)

One of my favourite features is the ability to fold the front passenger seat flat (which is why the Tiguan doesn't come with electric adjustment).

It's handy for loading long lengths of timber…

30283

Which forms part of the garage make-over…

30285

And it's great for admiring your handy work, or being chauffeured around in:

30282

And for an unrelated bonus, here are 5 identical 162 TSIs that were available to hoon through a slalom at Phillip Island:

The driver's seat is electric, but the passenger seat is manual. I prefer it this way because manual adjustment is faster and you don't really need to remember the passenger seat position. While 'm not normally a fan of the lever based seat-back adjustment, it does make folding the front seat flat a lot easier.

Congrats. But I have to say Castle Hill VW is the worst car dealer I've ever come across. Mean, greedy and very rude.

To be honest I didn't have any direct dealings with them until I picked it up, but the people I spoke to there were all pleasant.
I used a broker to track down the vehicle I wanted, in the timeframe I needed. The broker did all the liaison and was very proactive in communicating. They delivered exactly on time as promised.
Quite frankly I was in a hurry to get into an SUV after a permanent hip injury - climbing into a sedan was killing me. I didn't care if it was transported from Perth at my cost. I did pay about $1500 more than I was offered from another dealership, but received the exact vehicle I wanted within 6 weeks of ordering instead of January 2018.

If you want to talk about mean, greedy and rude, I went into VW Alto in St Leonards and nearly belted the bloke that I was talking to. It was a bit of a 'Pretty Woman moment'... Was my first visit to a dealership after researching Tiguan online. He basically wanted to know if I could afford the car before letting me test drive, and was so blunt and rude about it that I nearly walked into Mazda next door to drop a $30K deposit on a CX-5 Akera out of spite.
The missus was looking at a Jetta for herself and we could easily have placed orders for two cars with him.

GeeMoney

In my opinion it's hard to find a decent dealer. They all want to make a big sale as quick as possible.
It took me a couple of cars and dealers to find the right sales person. He takes enough time with me to look at all the options possible and listens to my story and searches for the options within my price range. He's also doing is best to arrange cars for me to test drive even if he needs to call up another dealership.
That's why my last 3 cars are all ordered through him, i'm happy, he's happy.

PS. You all have the 3 silver linings in the front grill, in The Netherlands you only get 3 when I order the most expensive headlights including auto cornering function. I only get 2 linings because I ordered the full Rline LED without the cornering function. (The low placed led lights do corner but just not the headlights themselve) I believe you have these 3 linings without the cornering headlights?

You can order an after market chrome trim for the centre bar of the grille on Alibaba refit front hood billet grille grill mesth horizontal sticker style FOR VW TIGUAN mk2 Europe version 2016 2017 2018 (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/front-hood-billet-grille-horizontal-sticker-style-FOR-2016-2018-VW-TIGUAN-mk2-Europe-version/32816446221.html?spm=2114.search0302.4.66.09acKc)

Not sure about the cornering headlights - I thought the LED headlights which come with the AU Highline and R-Line variants were top of the range... someone else might be able to answer that one.

Yeah, the 'Boy Racer' in me desperately wanted the R-Line, but the ride was too rough... My kids get car sick (even in city driving) on low profiles...and I couldn't justify $4K for the other cosmetics. I'll save the cash for the next iteration - when the kids are a bit older... and sporty electric/hybrids are more readily available ;)

Good luck with your wait, it will be worth it - these forums and a few youtube channels were the only things keeping me sane!

Could be, as we don't get the Adventure here :) .
The R-line headlights have an eyebrow so to say and mines are missing those, and they can not steer the light in the corners. But in The Netherlands cars are bloody expensive and I had a limit somewhere. This spec is 55.000 euro's . (84.000 AUS Dollars if I'm correct)
(Full R-line was 60.000 euro's)

The 162 tsi ports are fake. The exhaust exits under the bumper.
No idea why they do it on the other petrol and diesel models. Would’ve thought they would do something special for R-line.

No idea why they do it on the other petrol and diesel models. Would’ve thought they would do something special for R-line.

definately is weird, i thought it was specific for the Euro Tigs only, then i realised its just the 162tsi which have the ports either side which i no are fake, but they look better.
ah well... cant have it all

i picked up mine within a week or 2 of looking for one, so cant complain

just noticed my Rline 140tdi has different exhaust to some of the photos in here, i have twin exhaust on LHS
but most seem to have one on either side, any reason why its different?

edit - seems all the TDIS have twin on one side
162tsi have square on each side

is there a reason for this

It's a hangover from the European models. In Europe, the models with the most powerful engines get the face exhaust ports. That's the 162TSI and the bi-turbo TDI. In Australia we don't get the bi-turbo TDI, the highest spec is the 140TDI which gets the twin exhausts on the left in other regions, so they just kept it the same for Australia.

That's what I am getting at. I think I would like to have the back darker than the VW std, but was unsure exactly what the std OE looked like and if anyone had any before and after pics. Sounds like you might be voted in, if you are having yours done this week.

I don't think your able to tint the rears any darker (i think they approx 20%) being privacy glass.

When i was sorting mine, i was even asking about a clear tint (just for the UV properties) on the back of mine and was told that would be illegal in VIC (even though clear, still affects the light transfer or something, cant remember exactly what was said, was back in Feb). So was only able to have tint applied on the front windows. This was through the dealer.

Not sure about that
I'm sure they'd sell me their overpriced tint at any chance - she was only letting me know what they could and couldn't do with respect to Vicroads..
Of course i know i can just roll down to the local tintacar and get it applied if i want.
Maybe things are different in NSW with your RTA.

oh i thought you said dealer said it couldnt do it at all on privacy glass
tbh the privacy glass is crap, i always get 30% tints all round on my cars, its just past the legal limit but not enough to get pulled up and fined (knock on wood)

When I picked the car I was told to bring it back after a month for check ups. It was only 1.5 hour service, free of charge.

After service I noticed that car was lot more racey... so whatever they did I am happy :D

Quite the opposite in fact, the car was filthy.. I have a friend who talked me out if the black (deposit was down). He said "you'll only have one black car", too hard to keep clean.. I personally prefer colours that make the front air intake etc look distinguishable .. Doesn't show when it's black on black.. Semi hot I'd say.. [emoji38]

Hi Mo8578,

Here's a link to the ones I have:

10.1" HD Digital TFT Touch Screen 1080P Video Car Headrest DVD Player with HDMI Port | Xtrons (http://xtrons.com/headrest-systems/10-1-inch-headrest/hd102thd-10-1-hd-digital-tft-touch-screen-1080p-video-car-headrest-dvd-player-with-hdmi-port.html)

I've hooked up a rasberry pi for the kids to game and watch movies on. Mostly wanted these for the size and hdmi input.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I had them removed as I prefer the cleaner look on the back. I find them a pain the clean and no matter how hard you try it always leaves dirt in the small gaps. My last car was a Mk6 Golf R and that had just the R logo on the back and that was bad enough so for this car I wanted nothing on it.

It isn’t easy to notice from that photo but I have also changed my mirrors to be black rather than half white and halve black just to make it a bit different.
