Hey all
I have 235/45/r17 wheel on my t4, its now time to replace them but most of the garages are telling me they are not compliant. Does this mean they are not road legal. These are the wheels that came with van when I bought it.
I see other van with r18 wheels, can you pulled by the police for these?
Cheers

Hi,
15" steel rims were standard, Mine has 205/65/15 tyres, Caravelles had 15" & 16" alloys.
The 17" rims and tyres need to be load rated for the van to be compliant, there is a plate on the B-post which states axle weights
(shows front & rear axle weights in kg. half the number to get individual wheel weights).
For my van (2003 2.5L petrol kombi) I need 750kg min for each rim with either 98,99 or 100 xl tyre. Diesel engine vans will probably need a higher load rating.
What brand/make of rims/tyres do you have?
From what I have been reading on the uk T4 forum genuine Audi rims from a6's, rs6's, allroads and A8's are okay to use as well as Bentley rims (same centre bore and stud pattern) even tho they will fit I wouldn't be using A3, A4 rims as most seem to have a max 625kg per rim.
On 17" rims a lot in the uk seem to be using 225/50/17" 98 xl.
Cannot see how the police would/could know the load rating of rims, they could only go on what the tyre says, so as long as you have a min tyre rating of 98 you should be okay.
Hope that helps.

We had Audi wheels on both our T4,s but hey I am a rebel .
Cannot see how the police would/could know the load rating of rims, they could only go on what the tyre says, so as long as you have a min tyre rating of 98 you should be okay.
Insurance could be a problem though in the event of a claim.
