Has anyone spotted the Coles supermarket T6 single cab with fairly long factory built shopping trolley tracks. It is fitted with a compressor & air bags to raise it from ground level. It was being raised while I looked on & there was a motor whirring away. It was fitted with Vic. number plates so maybe doing the rounds to see what the stores think. The operator said it was a nice piece of kit, as long as everything continued to work properly. If I see it again I will take a pic.

As promised, here are some pics. & some more info. There are three of these units operating in Adelaide, & each one is given a name. The one I saw is called Kirsty & is shared between St Agnes shopping centre & Tea Tree Plaza. This driver also confirmed that it was developed & built by VW.
The tray is lowered by releasing air from the airbags at the rear & a couple of ramps are lowered to the ground.

After loading the trollies, the tailgate is raised operating a switch that starts an electric motor. This drives a compressor filling the airbags & raising the tray.

Here's the working part in the black box covered in perforated plate.

The sticker on the rear window says Birwickvolkswagen.

That's pretty cool.

It appears these guys made it:

CARRYBOY : Fiberglass Canopies Australia, Canopies Australia, Ute Lids, Canopy Ute, Hard Lids, Canopy Utility, Sports Bars, Side Steps, Canopies Racks, Bullbars – Canopies and Accessories Ute Australia (http://www.carryboy.com.au/)

Looks like they've got a bit of a tie-up with Coles.
