Michelin don't have any 215/65/17R tyres in stock. When I contacted them I was told they are not being imported. I got onto Isaac Bober, Practical Motoring. He obviously knows the right people! He found out that VW actually have a stock of the OEM tyre and Michelin have them on order. That is heaps better than I could find out. VW told me to buy Pirelli instead. Not happening.........

The reason I enquired was because I am thinking of buying a tyre so that I have a full size spare. It will fit as the floor of the boot has two levels.

Hi Monty1951,

I am considering exactly the same thing.

My Tiguan will come with 235/55/18R and I want to ditch the Space Saver. I would be willing to go down in rim size and width to obtain the same rolling diameter and off-set.

Do you know if a 16" rim will clear the brake calipers etc.?

(As I will not be taking delivery until ~ May next year, I am in no hurry, but it would be good to know in advance.)

Regards,
David

Hello David,

My reply is a bit lagged................ I don't know if the 16" rim is practicable. I have a bit of info on the 17" rim. The dealer just quoted me $1386.00 EACH. I'd expect to buy four for that!. I still have no info on the tyres. I've asked my local MP to look into the legalities of not making the correct tyre available with a new car. I'm told by those who should know that the importers have a lot of muscle with the government, hence the quashing of grey imports recently. I am not holding my breath.

Update from Michelin. 215 65 R17 Primacy 3 tyres will be available from the end of January 2017. The price has not been set yet.
