View Full Version : Colour choices

I'm deciding which colour to choose for the Highline 162TSI with DAP, and to be honest I'm a bit underwhelmed with the choices.

Personally I think the Deep Black looks best, but pretty much unanimously people say black cars are the worst at showing scratches and dirt (never owned black so just going on Internet opinions).

I know a lot of people getting the R line pack are going with white, I can understand that, but not a huge fan of white cars in general.

The blue is a ridiculous blue, my current car is silver so don't want another, orange doesn't row my boat, so I'm left with Ruby Red or Indium Grey.

Reds can look terrible, or great (CX5 red looks great IMO), so a bit of a lottery what this one will look like. I wish the Indium Grey was a bit darker to be honest but looks like that's the colour I'll get based on the above rationale.

Any thoughts/opinions? And what colour are you going with and why?

If you want some real life photos of the different colour options, unfortunately not the R Line since there aren't any here yet but does give you and idea on the Highline then have a look here: Motors search results - Find vehicles on Trade Me Motors (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/CategoryAttributeSearchResults.aspx?search=1&cid=268&sidebar=1&5=&14=&18=0&18=0&24=2016&24=0&54=Tiguan&searchRegion=100&sidebarSearch_keypresses=0&sidebarSearch_suggested=0)

Looking at the photos I'm not a fan of the Ruby Red and I wasn't certain on the Blue, coming from a Golf R in Rising Blue which I loved the colour of I thought this blue wouldn't live up to it at all. I think the black will take away from the black accents that the R Line body kit has so that left the grey, silver or white. I have always liked white cars so that was an easy option for me.

I want the orange, the mrs calls me obnoxious for wanting it but little does she know that calling me that, makes me want it more. But i think white is the best looking colour for an r line. I wish we could get the pearl white but i am told that it isnt an option

I have put on order a 162TSI R-Line in Deep Black - always have had black cars (besides the wife's white Polo GTI) and love them. Go with your initial thoughts and don't look back.

Agree the blue seems a bit ordinary compared to the blues on the Golf. I have an indium Scirocco and I think it is great not so dark that you start to loose all the surfacing effect and not black nor a regulation silver. Have seen two indium cars. One in the UK and one at the dealers The VW red on the Tiguan also looks ordinary compared to say the CX5 or better still the cx3. That said opted for orange or at least my wife did the tigger is hers.

My wife chose the orange for her Highline. As she didn't want the R line it was a pretty easy choice - it featured heavily in the brochure and seems to be a bit of a hero colour for the standard cars (white for r line). Her previous Tiguan was silver black wasn't consider the red and the blue were out as was indium.

Personally i I think the Orange looks great.

I chose white for the R-Line I have on order. I've never had a white car before, I've always gone for greys or silvers and blues but this time I wanted a change. I think the black accents on the R-Line really suit it in white so it was an easy choice.

The blue is hilarious. It's like they are replicating the blue from the Gen 1 where it goes Catalina -> Biscay -> Night throughout the model life.

I rarely if ever see a Catalina Blue because no one wanted a light blue CUV but see tonnes of the night blue so you think they would have the sales data to show that the light blue is a terrible option.

I saw the blue at the dealers and it does look a bit washed out. I think they would have been better off with another silver in the lineup (or pearl white) than the blue.

Orange is great would have been a wild colour to get in R-line. I think the contrast with black accents on orange would work really well.

Black R-lines work less well due to all the trims being the same colour. It really needs some highlights to break up the black on black - unless you like the blackout look of course!

So yes by the time you cross off colours from the shopping list for one reason or another you're really only left with a small choice.

I think there's going to be a few White Tigs on the road...

Yeah, I bet with the MY18 or MY19 they'll release some better colours, but in the meantime I think most of the ones on the road will be white, silver or grey. I remember when I bought my 2006 Jetta, it didn't come in grey, so I got it in blue (it was a nice gunmetal blue though) and a year or two later there were all these grey Jetta's driving around!

Yeah there will be standard colours that they will always have and then model year colours which will change every year or 2.

I'd suggest if you want orange/blue/red you get one sooner rather than later as there's no guarantees they will be available in MY18.

I know everyone's been on the edge of their seat wanting to know what colour I ended up going with, so I'll put you out of your misery... Indium Grey.

Thanks for all the input.

Ps why is there only one interior trim colour - black? My wife's pissed she couldn't get a lighter colour (personally I'm stoked due to maintenance).

Indium Grey is elegant and stylish. I have Indium on my Scirocco and while I was hairs breadth from ordering the blue I've loved owning the grey.

Now about the Orange.........

Not sure how it is delivered to dealer in AU and how many of you had chance to see your car in transportation cover, so something extra for you:

There is a blue in my car park (non R-Line) and it looks very average.

If I had the choice, and I'd probably regret it down the track, but an R-Line in nutshell with the right black wheels would do me nicely. LR/RR do the chocolate brown/black combo well. I reckon locally you could get a nice effect with the Habanero/black wheel combo, the polished alloy they've got just doesn't work.

Mazda's Soul Red is their most popular color on a lot of model lines despite being the only color with an extra charge - a whopping $200. We grabbed it on our 3 and it looks great.

I have the Habanero Orange. It is excellent. I get quite a few positive comments (not that I care). The perceived colour varies depending on the light. It looks red sometimes. I dislike blacks and greys. I prefer to see and be seen.

I you are not including the rline pack then the Orange looks really good. Very pleased with ours. Obviously it's a non starter if you want the rline.

My wife agreed to me buying the Tiguan only if she could choose the colour. From the posts on this forum, it looks like we might be the owners of the only ruby red Tiggy in Australia. Oh well, at least it will be easy to find in the car park.

there must two of you as I've seen one in Melbourne. Ruby looked pretty ordinary in the material available from VW when we ordered but looks much better in the metal.
