Performance cams for 1.8T?

Hey guys, does anyone know of any genuine or aftermarket cams for the
1.8T? I have heard of someone tuning a 1.8T with Audi cams, can anyone confirm?

There are heaps of options, but why do you want to increase the flow through the 20v head (which is excellent already)? You'd have to have a very sizeable turbo bolted on to need the valves to stay open longer, and aftermarket management to run it all, as I can't imagine the stock emissions control would be too impressed ;)

I would spend the $1500-2000 on a GT28RS :)

1.8T's require new rod's a long time before needing cam's. The standard rod's just can't cope with the increased cyl. pressure's of larger turbo's & increased boost pressures.

If your not going for 500+ hp, don't worry about it. Standard cam's are fine. But rod's are a must!!!

There are several cam company's & the most talked about one in the 1.8T world are CAT cam's. The make both cast & billet cam's with cam gears too.

The most used one's for making big power are the hydraulic cast 1013653, 1013652 & the hydraulic steel billet 1003653 & 1003652
Same grind's, just different material.

How much grunt are you after? Do you have a standard 1.8t at the moment?

You'd probably want to get a better inlet manifold first.

Then a bigger turbo to blow more in.

You only need to change cams when they are the item causing restriction. And the standard 20v cams are plenty for most setups.

The standard rods should be good for up to like 300hp.

And really.. how much grunt do you want out of a street car?

Why would one change the inlet manifold before the turbo? It is only through forcing more air through the motor that flow restrictions with stock components will start to occur - that certainly isn't going to happen with a K03 (or a K04 for that matter, as they're both tiny).

"The item causing restriction" is the tiny turbo! There are plenty of engines making several hundred HP through that stock intake :)

Also, with bigger cams, the standard rocker cover will most likely not fit, or squeezed one with a crack down the left side. Its a nice sight on a 1.8T lol...

Cams get a fairly decent gain though, I like the concept of the timing retardation though, and the less than regular idle. Gives the engine more character and grunt of course :)

What do you class as the whole hog? 400,500,600,700+hp?

As I have some info on some of the crazyest 20VT's out there.


Also, the standard rocker cover is fine with bigger cam's.
The standard AGU inlet manifold & throttle body are fine above 500hp.

500+hp = AGU or AEB have the best cyl. head's & the larger rod wrist pin's.

- GT3076R .63 A/R Turbo
- Custom Exhaust Manifold
- external wastegate 44mm
- Rods eg. Pauter, Scat, Carrillo
- 8.5 to 1 - 9.0:1 Pistons eg. JE, Mahle
- Cat Cams 053s or 052's, with Valve Springs
- Good efficient intercooler or Liquid to Air Intercooler
- 630cc - 1000cc injectors
- Upgraded fuel system incl. pump's, regulator's, fuel rail
- Good engine managment system, MoTeC, Autronic, Microtech

Add all the other gear eg. Clutch, flywheel, LSD & broken gearboxes;)

There is plenty more too. Just for starter's.

Not really sure what a 1.8T is capable of without stroking?? But everything you have put on the list is on mine + lots more!

Would you recommend the 1003653 Cat Cams for less of a rough idle?

Good luck putting the power down on that. Torque steer all the way i think aiming for the 200kw would be a more appropriate aim esp in a light car.
