hey all

i have 16x7 wheels

im indecisive in between these 2 tyres

TOYO PROXES T1R in 195/45R16 $180 per corner
and
FALKEN ZE329 in 195/45R16 $160 per corner

i would like to know about favors and comments about comparing both together

my main issue is sidewall flex with stretching, witch one will be esier to stretch and witch will look better

Mate I can say that Falken's suck a#%e!

My Audi came with a brand new set of Falken's ZE's & all I can say is "I've had retread's on my dirty old ute that have handled better!"

I am Falken tyres fan, I first had them in the early 90's. I have currently got 329s 14*6 on the front of the Little Beastie, and they a great value for money. the both were and handle well in the wet and the dry.

I've had no experience with either, but I'd go T1R. However, I've looked for that size as well and I've went to places that offered me $170/tyre for the T1R! Look around a bit more ;)

The Toyo T1R's have a lot of very good reviews & probably are top in their price range. They have been shown to be by far the best in aqua plan conditions against a lot of other brands when tested
I have had 2 sets in 15 x 195 x 50 & found the best all round tire to drive on, ATM I am running bridgestone ponteza g3 in a 16' & they don't come any near the toyo TR1, when I run them out I will most likely replace them with the Toyo's
Comparing toyo to falcon is chalk & cheese
$180 is a good price for the quality of product you will end up driving on

I have 205/45/16 T1R's on mine.
Toyo's are a good tyre for the $. Sidewalls are a tad soft though, but good grip wet or dry.

On most of the UK VAG forums and the VASK one in NZ, the T1R rates well.
A good thread to start is one titled 'best tyre under $200'

They feel like a soft compuond on the road compared to other tires, but are surprisingly durable
But do you have them yet?????????
I am keen to find out what you think
I lost grip on the weekend in some s bends, by just being lazy. All I could do was curse & say that would not have happened with the toyo's on.

195/45/16 is a bit big for a Mk1. You really need a 195/40 to avoid rubbing. I wouldn't touch Falken either - in fact, I wouldn't piss on them! I had them on my Cupra for a while and they were utter rubbish.

Get Contisport Contact2s in a 195/40/R16. You get what you pay for with tyres and they are the most important part of the car, being the final contact point with the road. They also stretch beautifully, despite having solid sidewalls. Good grooves for wet weather too :)

where did you source the toyos from??as they are one of the best stretched tyres getting around

and by the way bro the disc are 280 zimmerman from tooley imports here in sydney, i have part numbers somewhere they are basically g60 discs which suit all the after market adapters and so on

i was actually after a set of 195/40's but was unable to get a set anywhere as aust standards do not support such sequence

tha 45's was the lowest i could go for a 16 :(

Australian Standards are a pack of muppets. Someone should take them for a ride in a modified Mk1 and then ask them what the f--k they are doing :D j:

Seriously though, they normally don't import those sizes as there's not much market for them. It's much like the 165/45s - you can still get them, but it just takes a while.

The tyre issues can be waved by way of an engineer's certificate, but that involves more bollocking around :(

A 205/40 for 16" are more readily available in Australia than the 195/45. I compared both (I have a pair of each mounted to my wheels) and the 205/40 have a slightly smaller rolling diameter. At the moment, they're both mounted on a 6.5" wide wheel and from a looks point of view, I don't notice much difference.
