Hi all,

I have recently purchased a MY13 mk6 GTI manual and love it.

However the more I drive it I am starting to get concerned there could be an issue with it.

When you drive it around normally it feel almost lathargic on take offs it makes no remarkable power until the revs rise above 3500rpm, between 2000-3000rpm the power surges/comes in waves, it almost go as far as calling the car unpleasant between these revs.

If you rip into it goes extremely well, however the every day driving its almost not enjoyable.

Its got factory warranty until March so debating wheither I should take it back or if this is normal on the Mk6's? I owned a mk5 GTI many years ago and the one thing I loved about it was there was torque everywhere in the rev range and the engine did not suffer with 'turbo lag'. However upon some research The mk5 and mk6 use different engines.

The car has a complete service history with Napean Motor Group VW.

What are your guys thoughts? do these engine suffer from turbo lag? Is this a known trait of the engine? Do you think its worth taking it to VW. (My experience with dealers of all manufacturers is that getting them to play ball and fix it is going to be a challenge)

Thanks in advance.

I'd be taking it to a good independent workshop and getting them to do an end of warranty inspection with full report. You can then go to your VW dealer and get them to fix up all the issues that have been picked up. Much better to get all of this sorted before your warranty runs out....

It could be badly tuned, or something is going wrong with it.
If it was tuned, the chances are that you lost your warranty on your engine, ECU, drive train components. That's why you should take it to a good independent workshop, so you don't get fobbed of by a bad dealer.

The car is 100% stock. I would be very surprised if it has had a tune... Will keep you posted
