View Full Version : Rough idle on start up

Hi all.

I have just bought a 2015 my16 118tsi twin charge. During initial start up in the first 15 seconds i understand the car runs lean in order to raise the temperature of the catalytic converter.
However over the last few days being so hot during the first 15 seconds the car has been running rough, sounds like it's misfiring and it's quite violent. After 15 seconds the car settles down to a normal idle speed and never misfires once.
Car then runs fantastic throughout the day under all conditions.

Does anyone else have this issue?

If so did vw recognise it as a problem and rectify it?

Thanks
Phil

It's not an issue, Mine does the same. Pretty sure most modern VW's do it.

Just the cold start process that the engine does on start up. I would not be concerned.

Sounds pretty bad - would not hurt to get it checked but you will need to leave the car with them overnight or even for a few days

My 147TSI does not do this at all...

Have a MY 15 Beetle with the 118TSI. Mine is a little rough in the first 10 seconds sometimes, stalled once a couple of seconds after starting last winter; though car was in the garage at the time. I would not be overly concerned but would mention it it at your next service.

I contacted vw service department and they said that it is normal. An excess amount of fuel is injected during start up in order to increase the exhaust gas temperatures to get the catalytic converter to operating temperature
