If theres one thing you dont want to do cheaply its skip on the one thing that keeps you in contact with the road.

Eagle F1
Dunlop SP sport MAXX
Michelin pilots
Bridgestone Potenza/Adrenalin
BFGoodrich G-Force (ive had these, they were cheapish and pretty decent)

There was a thread not so long ago with whole bunch of people suggesting different brands and makes. Basically everyone had thier own preferences, so it really comes down to price!
Search for it in the wheel and suspension category mate ;)

Depends on your needs and driving style, too.

FWIW, I am very happy with the Adrenalins, having had Falken SR615s before that, and the Contis out of the box, Adrenalins best so far for standard high performance road use.

I'm going to finish off my R615's this arvo at Eastern Creek. Semi's next... :)

I'm putting some Kumho KU-31's on tomorrow. Have heard good things about them. Will let you know how they go. Hopefully the sidewalls are a bit tougher than the contis.

No-one seems to mention Yokohamas which have always been a good performance tyre. Do Yoko make anything suitable for the GTI?

Haha...bet you don't! They're hard as nails :D

Yes, you can get Advans -- GT3 has them and reckons they're pretty good. I was less than impressed with them on another car, but that's not to say they don't suit the Pog.

I had Yokohama Ad07s om my car on 16" and i loved them nice strong side walls and took street and track punishment only got 15000k tho but well worth it.
Now on my 17" i am using Re001 Adrenalins and they are just as good i would say yet to try them out on the track tho.

Forgot about the Advans.

I hear good things about the Advans - the Ralliart Colt I drove had plenty of grip. They sold out of them for a while and the Colt owners were going nuts not being able to buy them.

I remember a comment in the Motor Bang for Buck where they said the only reason the Colt was quicker around the track than the GTI was the grip from the Advans.

Yeah i picked up my set of advans off a Ralliart colt the owner put 17" wheels on his. Same 16" 205/45 profile.

Not surprised, closest thing to an R tyre you can get. Let's put it this way, VW put Yoko Advans on the GTI W12-650, and it's pretty uncommon for Euro car companies to go Jap tyres...

I have these on my A3, seem pretty soft, they have lasted about 16 months on the front and have never been out of town really.

I reckon they'd be good at a track.

Also have Nexen 3000 on the Ibiza and they hang on good for a budget tyre.

One of the Polo lads around Brissy has them on. Robin drove his car when we were up there last month

Anyone get me a price range for some of these tyres while I'm away (next 3 weeks)? My Conti's are getting close to replacement time and I'd like something with plenty of grip, reasonably quiet, not too expensive in the 205 x 16 x 45 range.

Cheers,
Dave

Just a quick update on my new Kumho's, after about 300ks.

They're nice and quiet, compared to the worn out contis...until they start to slip, then they howl like a bitch.. :). Seem to be a lot quieter on the freeway going to work and a bit more compliant over bumps too.

Very grippy, both in the dry and just after it rained yesterday afternoon. Nice and progressive when they do start to slip.

All in all, quite happy. I dont think they're a step down from the Continentals. Paid $185 a corner, though I'm sure I could've found them cheaper if I looked a bit harder.

Yoko AD07's 205/45/16 - quoted $266 by Bob Jane at Southport.

Anyone who has these tyres raves about them.
