DIY: Airforce style Kill switch for Subwoofer

Aim: To kill the subwoofer with single flip.
Intro: Isn't it annoying to have thud thudd booom boom noise of a subwoofer in the early hours of the morning? Or cuttign the subwoofer with out turning down volume as some head unit does not have this function. Perhaps killing the subwoofer in densely populated areas like shopping centers, preventing people from thinking you have ......a small penis syndrome?

Material
Subwoofer setup
1 x Kill switch $4.00
1 x Airforce style flip $4.00
3 set Wire sockets 1.00
2 X 1.5 meter speaker wire
Instructions:
1. locate and cut +ve wire from Amp to subwoofer. (may not matter, personal preference.
2. Insert 1 set of wire socket to cut wire and extended wire to kill switch. ( socket used for convenience, just incase kill switch dies--> plug and play again.)

3. thread extended +ve under seat, carpet to kill switch location.
4. drill hole, clip wire socket to kill switch, mount kill switch.
5. put every thing back in place.

yay for DUI um DIY! I've always wanted to put one of these switches in, but I've got nothing to connect it too!!

How well is the swich coping with the current? Any noticible loss of sound quallity?

I originally thought you where killing your amp for the sub, and i was going to warn you about flipping that swich while the amp was turned up, but you probly know that anyway.

The switch is coping well, haven't noticed any lost of quality and no delay when I flip it on ... the switch is an over kill from what I know handles 1000W and my amp only gives out 200W max (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=2&series_id=6&family_id=21&item_id=108230&locale=en_US&p_status=). and subwoofer max at 300 W (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=4&series_id=31&family_id=9&item_id=108268&locale=en_US&p_status=). Apart from that, what were you referrring to, you are scarring me.

I wish I had a mono amp dedicated to sub.... love to have even more control. As my rear speakers are running off head unit, feel like a waste.

lol... I always has an OEM look in mind, first planned to get my hands on an spare a/c button, and some how go from there. But couldn't resist when I saw the price, 9 bucks man and effective.

If you turn an amp on or off while it's turned up, you can damage your amp. You should always turn your head unit down before killing your amps. Either when turning the ignition off or other.
