Well my fellow vdubbers, as there are a few of us other mk3ers in Sydney and what not I have been speaking to a few of you about having a small photoshoot/ GTG.

After to talking to some of the members we have decided to expand this to all VWs :] Everyone is more than welcome to come, we didn't think that we would have enough guys here from the mk3 forum let alone anyone else that would be interested but a few seem to have taken some interest in it, this has all been taken from the mk3 forum and copied and pasted.

I was thinking of one Sunday during December at Homebush Olympic Park, there is plenty of room to meet and also have plenty of photo oportunities as well.

So if anyone is interested place your name in here and we can get something going! It doesn't have to be big but its something that we can all meet if you guys haven't before and also compare and converse in conversation about our cars:grin:

CONFIRMATION HAS NOW BEEN ESTABLISHED PLEASE READ!!!

Date: 16th December
I posted this date on the first page I think but would like to make it official.
Time: The time for this is 5PM onwards, this allows us time to get there, get everyone sorted out and chit chat and get some light photos before the night ones!
Where: Homebush Olympic Site Carpark not sure what its called but I have met there before for a few cruises and it seems to be half decent! The carpark is on Australia Drive, Off the Herb Elliot Drive, maps powered by google

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2007/11/Homebush-1.jpg

Highlighted in red is the area to meet!

Also we are thinking of dinner,so since the meet-up is about 5pm, myself and Raymond was thinking maybe we could all go have dinner afterwards? To cater to everyone's tastes, I was thinking maybe we could go to an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant? One close to the photoshoot would be at Auburn RSL which is off Parramatta Road. I've enquired and they allow bookings - it is $17/person. I could also renew my membership so we could use the snooker/pool halls afterwards.

Also, there are a few that work on the Sunday til 9 so we could probably head out for another quick photoshoot at another location once everyone's ready.

Hopefully this could turn out to be more than just a photoshoot! I really want to get this rolling and since we have only a week left, I'd want to know ASAP if you're interested or not! The buffet restaurant at Auburn RSL can get quite busy on Sundays so ideally I'd want to book in a table (or two!) for us by Thursday.

Here's the list of confirmed people for the photoshoot so far:

Gogogogogogo!

As Raymond has said Gogogogogogogogo, even if it rains we can still find somewhere where there will be open and I have a feeling in Auburn there is that Fitness first centre that has underground parking, either way I want to take some photos aqua planing :D

The_Hawk

We came, we saw, it rained, then rained some more.

So we took some pictures in the rain before heading off to Rhodes shopping centre for some parking lot photos.

Note to me, remember that the built in flash is rubbish and find the tripod instead, lots of the photos are dark, but can be touched up. If anyone wants a CD of the originals, PM me, or if you just want one or two in full res, PM the file name and I can email them to you.

I have uploaded all the photos if people want to view them here:

Great afternoon/night. It was pouring most of the afternoon in the carpark, and it was a good thing a few brought out umbrellas. Met George in his Mk5 Jetta for the first time, and got together again with some of the regulars.

We went to Rhodes after a good clothed shower to take the excellent shots you see here by Aaron (love the one as your wallpaper). Raymond with his B5 Passat and Pierre in his Mk4 GTI came by as well. Had a bit of a thought about doing an NRMA ad skit (you know, the one with the trolley) but thought twice about it haha.

Some of us went for dinner at Auburn RSL (all-you-can-eat buffet - Louis definitely got his money's worth :D) and then left for Homebush again for some night shots. A few security guards actually doing their jobs came by in their little urban 4WDs to tell us to keep our cars in the parking lanes. Pretty funny really, they just came out of nowhere. Louis took the rest of the pics with his film camera so we're waiting to see how they've turned out!

Again, it was a great session of hanging out and catching up. Doing something like this regularly would definitely be in the works!

HEy hawk, great photos mate. meeting you in person too and vw concert george too.

I will finish the rest of the film develop and scanned them ASAP. Got to invest in a DSLR, you got 150 and I have propbably 30 or so only.

Forgot to mention about the nice pan shoot HAwk .. excellent work !!
Dinner was great the dessert was better :D

The security guard at rhodes wanted to tell us off too, he just didn't know what to say... "everything alright??? ......................long awkard pause ........." than he walked off. LOOOOOOSER.

Hopefully our 1 and only illegal shot turns out ncie, that is.. with our cars on an angle lol, can't believe those guard told us off.

I was wondering what he was on about since I didn't hear what he actually said. Just sort of walked up, mumbled something, then kept walking.

Thanks for all the kind words, Some nice shots amoungs the darker rubbish. Some can be cleaned up like this:

Good to see you guys once again to all the regulars, had heaps of fun myself :)

Ray tried some aqua-planing himself in his passat almost worked :D Rhodes car park was good, some good lighting and also some great cars! Dinner was awesome I'm still full and can still taste the Jelly lol. Damm Louis you can eat dude haha!!! The few that were left around went back to Homebush to take some more shots I think there are some money shots, if those stupid security guards didn't come we would have had some really awesome photos I think damm stupid Suzuki Jimny's (they seriously sprung out of know where, and then saying as if he was a cop and above the law "you have to park properly, you need to face the right way, as per the road rules", right-o tosspot!!!)

I'd be interested if we could get some shots on a regular occasion going even some for the revamp of the forum, good to see everyone once again:)

for the best effect at night it to try and have a long exposure and no flash.
some times "night" mode on a compact cam will be this
its amazing how much light you will get even tho it is dark! :)

The photos were taken with a DSLR which has a "no flash" mode which I don't use unless I have a tripod. The better photo's were taken with a borrow tripod on the night using that no-flash mode which as you say uses a lower shutter speed and a wider aperture.

Sadly lots of the pictures looked OK on the little screen after being taken, it wasn't until I got them home and looked at them in all their glory they looked so dark.

Like I said, next time I will be more prepared with the tripod.

They probably sprang out of nowhere because the whole Olympic Park area is monitored by CCTV, I have no doubt they would have seen us standing like drowned rats in the car park early on! Even the walking tracks in the parklands are equipped with detection devices to pick up any cars that may somehow find their way past the bollards at night.

It was great to finally catch up and say hi to you guys and put faces to the names. Sorry I couldn't hang around but I had a family commitment, hopefully I'll be able to catch up another time.

Cheers

yeah tripods are a must!!!

either that or its a pain trying to find somewhere to mount your cam.
its a big learning curve when you start with DSLR's, we was in torquay on saturday and my mates pic of the sunset is better on his compact than mine off my D40 (tho we was abit drunk at the time lol)

Hey guys sorry I couldnt make it. My mates Vr6 i was gonna bring had run outa rego so I thought i know ill bring the beast (Jag XJS 6L V12) but of course after i dropped my gf off, the central locking remote decided not to work and i couldnt get into my car because if i use the key to get in a) You get a headache and go deaf from the 130dB alarm inside the car and then the car wont start anyways so by the time i got all that sorted out I was a bit late haha.

So ill def try again for next time to come meet u guys.

Been busting my chops at work over the last month and just saw this.

I've scanned the developed photos on film and currently in the process of cropping. They didn't turn out good at all, my scanner is approaching its 10th birthday! My photoshop skills are very limited too, and I've just been using the auto adjustments to try and breathe a bit of life into them. The developed photos themselves are actually pretty good, though Louis says they're slightly hazy. I'll try and get them online ASAP.
