does anyone have any suggestions to get full use out of my cooler.
Half of it is blocked by the crash bar and the front bar.

I was told i could get the cooler dropped and my front bar re moulded to fit it.
That is as low as i can get it before modding the front bar.

The one I was looking at came with a new crash bar. The only way to move that one down is going to require some chopping I'm afraid.

yeh man i ended up looking at the new crash bar... it would be around the same to mod the front bar as the shipping cost is huge plus also they need a $300us deposit on top of the price of the crash bar.

Drop cooler down a few inches, move numberplate off to the side and then cut some of the front bumper out upwards to let more air in.

I cut the bar on my A3 then cut out the number plate slot and moved the plate to the passenger side. Job done.

My intercooler is a single pass and runs differently to the standard setup. The pipe goes over the gearbox, across the front and straight up into the TB.

It did work but it was tiny. I couldn't realy make it out. If you could get a bigger pic that would be great.

That sure is one big intercooler. It looks like you cut right through the crash bar?

Do you need to put such a big one on?

Thats highly illegal! If you were to get pulled over you would get done quite nicely for that one...

Alternative is to get a FMIC that fits correctly with less curves in your piping as well for better flow. I'm sure you can sell your FMIC and get one more suited and just change your pipe work.

do it right and it'll look neater and fit in better with the right airflow coming in as well! ??????

or alternatively, deal with it how it is or do some hacking and be prone to the yellow birdy! (well yellow here... lol)

Who manufactured the bottom one?

I think Neuspeed have one that fit straight on and apparently u only need to shave the bar back a bit, maybe Ian can shed further light on this..

You can't see what's behind the bumper anyway, so it would be one knowledgeable copper to pull me on that.

In SA there's no RWC and I have big brakes, so don't worry about having any frontal impacts.

The Golf and A3 while sharing lots of common parts have different bumpers. No one does an off the shelf front mount for an A3, that is any good.

The outlet on the turbo is about 2 inches in diameter so I doubt that the bends in the pipes, which are mandrel bent, cause a measurable restriction to airflow.

Admittedly, I could have put a smaller core in there but I reckon in Australia you can use all the cooling you can get. Plus I have a bigger turbo to go on over Christmas which will make good use of the size.

Clean but dangerous! I'd go down the path Fuzion showed.

I know putting a cover or a sheild is restrictive to the intercooler, but wouldn't be safer on the road and police wise to put a black or coloured sheild over the front? :?

I wouldn't know how to manufacture one but wouldn't be a heck of alot safer to avoid being defected? All those kits are quite visible.

Also, I read somewhere about using another standard intercooler in paralell which seemed to work as well when a larger turbocharger was installed. Who's gonna notice that? :)

The Audi 1.8T uses two SMICs ... possibly go that way?

Crossing the road is dangerous but doesn't stop you from doing it.

They have a different inlet manifold with the throttle body on the other side on the S3 and TT if that's what you are thinking of.
