Looking for someone who has the cable for doing this. I'm looking to replace my dash cluster and can't more forward unless i can pull the SKC.

I'm having troubles using the vag tacho 3.01 cable i got from e-bay in that it tries to connect to VDO old or new but then the option to read PIN is greyed out :(. i can successfully connect with "immo box Audi / VW GOL (megamos)" but when trying to get the pin i get an error saying wrong immo.

if anyone can help that'd be great

immo 3 (correct me if i'm wrong)

My understanding, which could be wrong, is that you cannot read the pin with immo 3 or immo 4, especially with a cheap eBay knock off cable.

I know that doesn't really help you. I have a proper Vagcom and cannot access immo 3 & 4. Needs to go to a dealer.

You could try The Retrofitters they should be able to either advise you or read the pin for you, at a cost of course.

Good luck.

Saying that think your immo 2, based on that being the last digit on your instrument code.

If it is immo 2 you should be able to read the codes you need. There is a good forum post on this somewhere I will see if I can find it for you....

I have read a couple of things where an aftermarket stereo may stop obd communications from working properly so I will need to try that with putting the original Head unit back in...
Otherwise thanks so much for having a look Horace01

See I'm reading this

Immobilizer - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer)

That says if both VIN and 17 digit are showing in the extra field = immo 3???

Oh yeah forgot to mention this is for an Audi S3 but shouldn't matter right??

This thread on vwvortex has some good info on coding VWVortex.com - DIY: hi-line cluster (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?p=44436951)

VAGTacho sucks for Audi's.

Where about in Melb are you located, I might know someone who can do it for you. Or if you sent the cluster to me I could do it but that's not that convenient.

You might find that the dealer will be useless to get you the PIN as they don't see it on their system, I don't think that they can even access it anymore.

stupid VAGTacho! LOL

AALocksmiths - i'd rather send to adelaide than to the UK where the guy who sent me a new screen has been supporting me to no end!
(yes, i replaced the screen for a new one and the guy doing it stuffed it, one of the tracks on the PCB lifted, leaving me with permanent blank line in the middle and one of the speedo lights kaput - hence looking into options)

I'm in the SE of melbourne but can travel or even send the boards around by mail. the car isn't being used at the moment so i'm in no rush and any help would be great!

so if i get a replacement tacho (i'm looking at a UK one which has MPH on it but have been told that i should be able to program it for Australia then just use my dials) you/or your melbourne contact can pull SKC from both?

i have a ross-tech VCDS so can do the rest of the programming from there

If you can send it then yes I can get the PIN from the clusters.

I find ebay to be really helpful when I look for parts like this. Try ebay.de .As you have time on your side at least you wont be at the mercy of local wreckers :)

ok thanks i will be in touch when i organise another set of clocks. even the wreckers i called said to just replace them.... $400 i'm like um would rather spend that on other car stuff thank you very much! lol

the link you gave me... the picture is for an A3 i'm guessing as my LCD is the one that's full screen whereas that one is half and half... although my model of cluster is listed there... so that makes it confusing...

also wouldn't mind looking into who you were thinking about in Melbourne too?

current state of the display... it's a little OCD and i can turn it off but if it's in my face and i can see it all the time it'd be good to have it fixed and not dodge

I tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full.

What model (S3?) and year is your Audi?

Can you take the back plastic cover off and take a picture of it as there are a couple of different types.

If it is just the pad that has been torn from the PCB it might still be repairable. IT could be worth going to someone that repairs TV's or phones ans ask if they have the materials for pad repairs.

i just got the email! LOL

inbox cleared :)

it's an '02 model. i'll get you pics in the next couple of days and get the board checked out by those places to see if they can help... have also discovered one of the LED's close to where the missing contact is now doesn't light up either *sigh*

Ok, thanks. Being that year there should not be any issues getting the PIN from just having the cluster.

The guy who stuffed it, is it a business?? Surely they would be fixing their stuff up?

well once i decide what to do (get it checked out by a proper electronics specialist place or source a replacement cluster) i will let you know RE: pin pulling. thanks for the info tho

got the contact off gumtree so props wasn't the best idea and now this guy is ignoring all contact

As the guy is doing it as a business (whether he thinks so or not) it would be worth taking it one step further and lodging a complaint against him, by not doing anything think about all the other people he could rip off.

I know it's tempting going for these cheap services but I think this case shows the importance of knowing that you are dealing with a legitimate business who not only knows that they are doing but also are insured for if it goes bad. Everytime I read or hear about getting keys coded by someone they found on Gumtree it makes me cringe, these guys "giving it a go" don't know how it is actually done or how to fix it if it doesn't work. Can you afford the $2,000+ fix if you had to pay the dealer to fix it?

awesome $2k+ ... that won't be happening any time soon

it's not something that is considered as urgent, it still works just that it's not how it should be you know? and i hope it doesn't affect getting a roadworthy...

thanks for your thoughts eh

I realise this thread is old but there is a guy in Richmond Melbourne who has the full Abrites AVDI interface with all modules active, he can read EEPROM, get the SKC/IMMO code, takes about 30 seconds. He helped with the Highline cluster swap in the Tiguan last year. Cost around $100 to read the code. If anyone is interested for the future the details are:

Carl at C.Q. Auto Electrics
147 Church Street
Richmond 3121
phone 03 9428 6476

For interstate people, the aussie distributor of the AVDI device is Scanner Automotive, maybe contact them and ask if they have any interstate. workshops ... 'we have the technology!!'

AVDI can do brand new keys at a fraction of the cost that VW charges. In fact this guy has many Melbourne dealerships as his customer because they CBF paying $$$ to VW Germany and waiting ages for keys. (Yeah I guess car dealerships must lose a lot of keys for cars on the showroom floor, test drives, etc etc)
