Skoda Yeti MY15 Amundsen media radio to get GPS operating in Australia
Hi
hoping someone can advise, my partner just got Yeti Outdoor MY15 ( Late 14 build ) 4x4 Tdi with Kessy but not tech pack so no Columbus but apparently Amundsden radio , 3 buttons down each side with central round knob under radio unit. It says Nav and aerial on roof looks like GTI or gtd with Nav but has base and higher rubber aerial. It has no SD card in it and some salesman told me today Skoda in Aus do not link this for GPS but it looks like radio in Amarok with GPS as in Australia. I am wondering do we need CD for GPS & SD card to make it work as GPS ???
When car starts on radio screen it comes up Skoda Navigation but hit Nav button & only get directional arrow on a blank screen
Any help or advice appreciated
thanks

I think you could be out of luck as the Australian instructions have a sticker about not having navigation.

I don't know the model number RNS310 or RNS315.

If you want more info about overseas units see RNS 315 GPS radio navigation system FAQ | VW TDI forum, Audi, Porsche, and Chevy Cruze diesel forum (http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/rns-315-gps-radio-navigation-system-faq/)

I have a 77TSI with the Amundsen plus RNS310. The navigation is fully functional, it's even got the maps for Western Europe already loaded. Not much use out here! It has the GPS aerial already fitted, that's why the compass reading on the dash disappears if you turn off the radio unit when driving. All we need are the Australian maps on SD. I've tried emailing Skoda Aus about the maps and their availability, but got a polite email back saying that my vehicle was not advertised with sat Nav and that the RNS310 is installed in the MY15 upgraded vehicles to provide a screen for the reversing camera. I've also tried Skoda spare parts division, no SD at present with the Australian maps. I've tried GPS Navigation System | HERE | Navigation.com (http://www.navigation.com) where Skoda owners are directed to for map upgrades, no Aus maps there either. If this unit has been used in other VW products in Aus for navigation we may be able to get maps from VW, but for now it is a case of so close and yet so far! I downloaded the maps for my Samsung phone the other day and use it for GPS when needed, bluetooths nicely into the system, that'll have to do for now!

You'll probably need to go to less "official" sites for your maps.

I recently bought my dealer used Yeti Outdoor and have this problem with SAT NAV loaded with European Maps and none for Australia for a car sold in this country. My car has the media system with 3 buttons on each side (6 in total), one of which on the right side being NAV.

I called Skoda at their Head Office in Sydney and they said the dealer would have the SD card for the navigation. The dealer says he has escalated it to the Skoda service team in Czech and they have said they cannot provide one!

This is clearly a case of misrepresentation in their brochures though the dealer told me there is no SAT NAV. While I know they have tried their best to help their customer (and not lose dealership!), Skoda has a case to answer.

Should this go to Consumer Affairs or ACCC to keep Skoda on the ball with this?

Has anyone cracked this problem yet?

Thanks in anticipation of this Forum's advise on this.

I don't quite understand what's been misrepresented?

The misrepresentation comes from the fact that the brochure shows Amundsen system and Columbus with both having a NAV button on its right of the display. The Amundsen NAV does not work in Australia as there are no maps. Yet this car has pre-loaded maps for Europe! So one would have thought that it is only a matter of getting the SD card with maps for Australia.

Interestingly Skoda offers World Maps in their spare parts division and that includes maps for Australia!

(The brochure also says parking sensors for front and rear on the Outdoor but the one I have is only on the rear with the camera. The brochure also shows tinted windows as standard feature but that is not an issue.)

The tag line for Skoda is Simply Clever. In my view, Skoda needs to be clever in ensuring that we customers who have the Amundsen get the SD card with Australian maps ASAP.

Observe the image in post 2. Skoda make it quite clear the maps aren't available as part of the "package". It's no different to the button on the Golf MKV GTI steering wheel that never worked or the "traffic" button on Octavia that has never worked. The other example is the suna traffic option on the MK3 Octavia that isn't offered in Australia but can be activated "privately".

I'd suggest you work out how you can independantly enable the Nav because complaining to Skoda will be fruitless - they really don't give a fig.

The brochures all say "subject to change without notice". It gives them an out if the delivered vehicle doesn't match the brochure.

MY15 does have front parking sensors and you can check this by the "P" button under the climate controls. This has to be pressed when going foward (up to 10kph IIRC) to activate the sensors but is automatic in reverse. Mine is a MY14 with MY15 specs as per the chart.

There is no "P" button on climate control. There are 5 black buttons under the climate control with the fifth one having the symbol of 'slippery' and OFF on it. Do you have a picture of the "P" to help me here. I was told subsequently that in lieu of front parking this car may have had the metallic paint option.

There is no "P" button on the row of 5 black buttons under the climate control system. The dealer says that the metallic paint may have been provided in lieu of the front parking sensors! Again there is this inconsistency of brochure info and actual car build.

There should be 4 round sensors on the front bumper as well.

I read somewhere that a few Skodas came in with equipment missing and prior to delivery, I went through the brochure with the sales guy to see if they were there and to have the functions explained. There was nothing MIA.

Hi I just bought an ex-dealer MY15 4 x 4 Outdoor Yeti with Amundsen and am also trying to get maps for the GPS - someone has told me (rather mysteriously) that there's a place in Qld (Gold Coast) that can do it unofficially, they specialise in Skoda GPSes - maybe GPS generally. Anyone know anything about this? Just a cryptic indication will do.....

Have been following your discussion on FB, so you found your way here where I noticed it. Looks like they used the Amundsen for the camera facility but didn't actually advertise it for Sat Nav, to get that they fit the Columbus. So it is entirely possible there are no maps for it as Skoda only used the Columbus in Oz and they only sort out maps for it. You would think the VW maps would be the same though and they tend to use the cheaper Amundsen in a lot of models.

One more twist on this saga - I got an address in the Sunshine Coast which could send me an SD card with Australian maps for my MY15 Yeti. I contacted them, they quoted me $499 for maps to over-write the European maps I have on my system. In a series of emails they offered me the maps at 350, plus a 250 deposit for the SD card which I would have to return to them. Then they sent me an invoice for 599 (plus 250 deposit), saying the 350 was a mistake! They refuse to be held to their offer of 350 - in my experience in retail, a seller is obliged to keep to his offer...... so, buyer beware, for anyone buying Skoda parts/accessories from this lot.

Yeah but in this case the seller is someone selling you something not legal. It's like calling out a drug dealer for changing the price when you meet up.

It's not a Skoda part. It's an unofficial, modded map file.

I agree though, it's frustrating when a vendor can't get their act together.

Just got an email from Skoda Australia and apparently they're working on Australian maps for Yetis, just a few things to sort out with head office! I guess we'll have to pay but still sounds hopeful.....

Do they mean for the Amundsen or the Columbus? From what I can see, the Columbus is an extra option that should already work, but they never advertised the Amundsen as a Sat Nav device.

I told them I have Amundsen, so I presume they mean Amundsen..... My Amundsen navigates around Andorra, Austria etc etc etc, just not Australia. And it obviously works as I have an arrow on the screen telling me I'm going N, NE, E, SE etc.....

Hi guys, in the same boat here. New Yeti bought in Dec 2014 (MY15?)

Found (what I believe is an) official Skoda Shop the SD cards selling for $276. Unfortunately you can't purchase it unless you live in the Czech Republic. This may indicate that an authorised dealer could purchase it however?

Navigation SD card - World (except Europe) | Å*KODA E-shop (http://eshop.skoda-auto.com/cz/en/b2c/music-and-communication/navigation-sd-card---world-%28except-europe%29-5l0051236bx/0/1/24/43/1001)

I took my car in to have the radio/navigation system checked. After about 45 minutes they told me that unfortunately the "tech pack" is not present/installed so there is nothing I can do. Not sure where to go from here. Kind of feel misled since the sticker on the Amundsen manual indicates that it doesn't work simply because maps do not exist... which they do now.

Have sent a pretty blunt email to the service center, will see how that goes. Any suggestions or recommendations or similar stories regarding the "tech pack"? Have been on the cusp of biting the bullet and just buying an android deck from eBay for ~$500.

Hi all

Just bought a second hand Yeti with the same issues. Have anyone found a solution ..?

I found this from a NZ supplier

http://skodaparts.co.nz/home/1045-navigation-sd-card-world-except-europe.html

Does it look legit?

Thanks?

For the record guys I have the Australian map equipped Columbus, and the navigation is crap, way out of date, takes you the long way around, my smart phone and almost ANY other App is far better. Hey it's still nice to have, and I do use it, but if it's going to cost you guys without the tech pack towards $500, get an android, I'm absolutely going to do that down the track. Happily sell my headunit!!

The biggest limitation is it has predictive text input, and if you try and put in a street, suburb or even city it decides is not in the database, it just won't give you the next letter option. That is really annoying as programming in a destination is very clunky, and to get to the end and it will not give you the next letter in the street you want, well it's frustrating to say the least.

Just wanted to let you know that for all your efforts you will end up with a system that is a long way from good.

Hi - did you ever get GPS fitted for the car? Asking because I just bought a 2015 Yeti diesel and assumed GPS to find this problem.

Hi - did you ever get GPS fitted for the car? Asking because I just bought a 2015 Yeti diesel and assumed GPS working to find this problem as well.

Hi - got nowhere with Skoda Australia - they told me to go back to Richmond Skoda - Richmond Skoda were quite helpful and the guy in charge there filled me in. Back in 2014, in order for the Yeti to have a reversing camera, they specced them with the Amundsen unit that has GPS - but at the time there were no Australian maps for this unit. What is wacko though, is that if you specced your car with the 'tech pack' it would come with the Columbus unit that DID have maps. Maps on the Columbus unit are on DVD but the Amundsen unit has them on SD. Were Skoda Australia being 'tight' by not getting the maps on SD? Who knows?
Skoda Richmond advised me to get a modern known brand unit fitted by someone like Autobarn. The problem with maps for the Columbus unit are they are donkeys years old and are not updateable. Can be infuriating when the GPS tells you to drive into a paddock!
Is there anyone out there who has successfully fitted a decent GPS/CD/radio unit to a 2014/15 Yeti and still has the reverse camera work?
