Hello fellow melbournites!

I have itchy wheels again and want to organise another event.

I have a few ideas in mind. at this stage im thinking of holding it on 13th of Jan. But following sunday is also an option?

Ill pop up a few options in a poll to see what people prefer but feel free to discuss any other options as well.

Im down! providing I'm not working at the tennis, which is where all my money for my car is coming from!!

I actually went karting last night at auskarts where josh works, and I do recommend that as a full nights fun, but terrorising locals is also alot of fun, and I've never been down to Aurthurs chair fell over; and wouldn't mind discovering a few new twisties...

the restaurant up the top of the mountain there is quite nice and usually deserted in the evening so bookings shouldnt be a prob if thats the option we end up taking. the back roads out that way are more undulating than mountainous but the drive down arthurs seat is sweet as. very twisty bit of road but only a few kms

I know im definatley booked in for a Phillip Island drive in Feb... Oh yeah really get to see how slow my car is... But who cares i got a lot to learn about driving... :D

Thats a good way to look at it James. Ive had my car since new, 5 years ago and now have done 140,000 and im still finding myself learning more about the behaviour of my car. Learn to drive and get a feel for how a car reacts in different situations before jumping into something powerful.

Anyways, back on topic! I'd love to do an all day drive where we meet up when its still dark and drive out of the city when theres no traffic and make it out onto the open road for daybreak where we can pull over and have a coffee and chat as the sun comes up.

hmmm im shocked! an all day cruise is leading the poll at the minute. Thanks for your thoughts FknDubbin. The other people that voted on it can we get some thoughts?
How far are you guys willing to travel? Obviously a cruise like that might scare some people away but then sometimes a small troop can be a lotta fun :D.

somewhere like wangaratta is a good base to attack the great alpine road. The run up mt hotham is one of the best roads i have ever driven! to get out there and back ud possibly end up driving over 700kms departing from the CBD!!

Id hate to organise a trip like that though if people werent committed enough to come along.

closer destinations may include places like lake eildon or thomson dam.

So yeah. Dont just vote guys. lets hear some discussion

Maybe a comprimise would be in order. Not too short, not too long.

Could l suggest the Grand Ridge Road in Gippsland.

Ive heard thats a good run. never done it myself. Last i heard there was a lot of it that was unsealed which doesnt sit too pretty with a lot of people though. are u familiar with it?

Also dont take this as we are doing a long cruise. I just wanna get the thoughts from people that voted for that. The poll is still young!

I've only been over the sealed sections. I doubt that l'd be willing to take my car over an un-sealed road, not by choice anyway.

The Grand Ridge Road is fairly narrow and, would need to be treated with extreme care. As a drive, it's fantastic. Windy, twisty, up hill down dale style.
The scenery's great too.

I acknowledge that it's early days as far as suggestions are concerned. I just thought it might be helpful to offer an alternative drive that can take a few hours as opposed to an all day job. I agree, Tim, l wouldn't be too keen to go to the trouble of arranging a "high country" trip, only to find a few turn up.

4 - 5 cars justifies a cruise in my view! at the end of the day as we have seen already from the recent events. Its all about the good company and havin a bit of fun.

but yeah let the discussion continue

I did the Grand Ridge Road from end to end in my company car (a SP23 before I returned it). The unsealed areas would not be fun in a Golf.
Another couple of options might be Mt Baw Baw or Mt Buffalo.

Hope I can make which ever one you decide to do.

hehe keep ya pants on. working on some ideas. Ive been talking with some of the guys from eurospec.com.au about doing a combined cruise to boost up the numbers a bit. Are you guys happy if we are joined by other euro marques? Eurocca are also going to be announcing a cruise on this date soon as well. I wanna see what they get up to as well.

Be patient though. Hoping to give at least a months notice. Ill post up a new thread with definate details when the time comes.

Ill probly need to drive whichever route I choose as well b4 the date to make sure I know where we are going properly. So if 1 or 2 people are interested in a nice monday scout cruise at some point lemme know.

Jarred
03-12-2007, 12:53 PM
I reckon it'll be good to cruise with some other euros, just for something different

depending on the date, I may be able to scout too

Ben_GTI
03-12-2007, 06:38 PM
Provided they aren't rebadged opel barinas and fully sick calibras, then I'm all good.j:

I wouldn't worry too much about numbers though, its not necessarily what counts.

I'm up for anything n: within reason! car is still stock suspension so nothing too hairy:D, I'm just hoping to be able to make it this time. I havn't been able to get to one yet. Did a cruise with hubbys car club yesterday up to a car show and had a ball, cant wait to do it with my car.

Arthurs seat is a great drive and the restaurant up there is supposed to be great, can even stop for a movie at drive ins on way down if anyone interested

Had a look at Mt Baw Baw today. Great one day cruise for one or two cars but not as wide as Lake Mountain.
After having done it I would not recommend it for a larger group.
If anyone wants to have a look, its about 2 hours from Stud Rd heading down the freeway.

Let me know where you want to start from & time. (I beleive you guys start @ Albert Park) I suggest something like Final Inspection in Brunswick for coffee before departure or something similar around Preston etc...

I have a few routes marked out varying points

I am happy to take photos with my limited skills, still learning

Tim

we dont always start in albert park. Final inspection would be a cool place to start from as well. Ive been meaning to have a chat to the guys there about removing the dealer applied swirls. :P

Sorrento;) for a fish and chips lunch.

If you're going to Sorrento, why not make it a full circuit 'round the bay. You can see the dolphins from the ferry! Unless some may find it too expensive. I could understand that.

im trying to get the ball rolling on a small get together next wednesday evening just to see neil off b4 he heads back to sydney foreverrrrrrr. Nothing too flash. Just a bit of a hang out have a few laughs eat some fast food or pizza or something and then maybe find somewhere to take some noice piccies.

Does anyone know how to get to that cool carpark under the bolte bridge? Ive seen some nice photos taken from there at night

99gti
06-12-2007, 10:50 PM
Neil who? ;)

Yup - I know how to get there. I ended up there last time we went for a cruise and I was meant to meet ya'll at the restraunt. I have no idea what it's called. Turn left once you get to Telstra stadium and then go till you can go no more then turn left and then right.

Tim

Did the run today and i reckon its got a nice mix of everything.
anyways. Ill post up a new thread locking it in with details and a route tonight.
