well as some of you know i'm taking delivery of a gt sport tdi in manual at the end of this month, and im going to be heading up putty road to give it a good flog/run in. i thought i might invite any others who are keen to join me since ive been posting for a while but never met any of you.

anyway for those who dont know, putty road runs from windsor to singleton (180km or so) and has no other roads entering onto it. its got LOTS of twisties with a few straight sections and is very popular among motorcyclists. anyway since its so long and with no roads entering it, i think it should be pretty good as far as cops and other cars go.

so just a friendly invitation if anyone wants to have a bit of a drive up there in the first week of december, pm me or reply here.

I've read about Putty Road in an article from Speed magazine (discontinued now, shame), and it looks really good. A good idea to stock up on fuel too before the run as there's no petrol stations in between, but you're running on diesel so I doubt that's a problem! j:

I won't be able to enjoy it with you though, but I'm sure a future run will be in the cards!

I came back from the Hunter Valley via the Putty Rd a few weeks back, it's a great road especially the twisty bits around Darkies Creek if you don't get stuck behind a truck or other slow moving traffic.

Won't be able to join you but I know you're going to enjoy the run! :)

Cheers

what time of the week/day did you go? did you see any cops? whats the speed limit?

theres about 122km of "interesting bits" and its about 130-140km from the nearest petrol station in windsor to the end of the interesting bits. put these waypoints into google maps directions. From: "Windsor, NSW 2756 (Woolworths)" To: "Putty Rd @-32.710220, 150.948340"

this isnt an official "cruise" so we can stop and turn back whenever we get bored or if you wanna cut it short so ppl can make petrol in their burbling v6's thats fine too :P

Try this:

http://www.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&saddr=Windsor,+NSW+2756+(Woolworths)&daddr=Putty+Rd+%40-32.710220,+150.948340&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=55.335657,82.265625&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.081186,151.004333&spn=0.827339,1.2854&t=h&z=10&om=1

I'd love to come on this drive since the road looks like a real fun one to drive on, although to make the most of it I have to make sure I can leave the Wife and the Boy at home... :D

Only issue for me will be it's a bit of a hike from Campbelltown, mind you everything is a bit of hike from Campbelltown... We will see anyway.

I've travelled the Putty Road many times over the years, used live at Penrith and always travelled to Qld via Putty Road then New England Highway. Speed limit varies, mostly 80 in the twisties but 100 most of the way. It's a very pleasant drive, quite scenic and as there are no towns to speak of along the way quite remote.

I've never seen a cop between the Colo River and the turn off for Broke which is getting near Singleton but you never know do you?

I would think a good days outing would be to either go the whole length to Singleton and then return the same way or turn off to the right and go through Broke then to Pokolbin (wine country) to Maitland and back to the F3 to return to Sydney. I wouldn't find that too much for one day but then I went for a Sunday drive last week and clocked up 476 KM!

Cheers

How do you afford to have so many VWs :)

The last time I drove the putty road was in a 2.0l ford escort 30 years ago. I used to get up so much cornering force the water would squirt out of the windscrean washer jets

I remember there being a time when I paid for a few Policeman's Xmas parties from the amount of fines I was getting. Btw did I here someone say "yeah we'd love to see a SEAT on the Putty RD"!!! And if you think that's a nice drive.. try this one thrillseekers.. Sydney - Canberra - Cooma - Gundagai - Sydney. Best sunday drive I ever went on and will be doing again as soon as I get the GT TDI. Best 1,000km's you'll ever spend!! Trust me!!!!

The GT!!! now there's a good question!!! well according to the alignment of the planets I should be getting delivery of said vehicle sometime around March '08, which then again depends on some very kind dock workers and good ole Patrick's. They're not even going to start building the lil beast until mid jan'08. so till then it's just me and the seat!!

Placed my order thru Chatswood Classic Cars with a salesman called Mark Diamond, was the most pleasant experience ever in purchasing a car. Did the deal on day one and he said if you find anyone that beats it come and see me!! And so far no one in sydney has been able to beat it, with a few dealerships telling me point blank there is no way you're getting that price. I've order the GT Sport TDI with DSG (Graphite Blue), Sunroof, Bi Xenons, Floor Mats, Headlight Protectors, Slimline Weathershields & Factory Blue Tooth Kit. All for just over $43k. That includes a trade-in on the SEAT of $2000, which other dealerships were only offering $500 for it!! Hey it aint worth millions I know but still more dollars in my favour. Highly recommend seeing Mark @ Chatswood Classic Cars if ever considering purchasing a VW.

and i thought i got a good deal!! geebuzz thats bloody cheap... mine is the very base model only with metallic paint... i probably should have bought it from someone else there, bob is a little inexperienced and its been very frustrating to deal with him at times. full write up on the car and dealership experience sometime this week :)

and yes mk3vr6 im gonna head along to that vortex cruise... you guys going to that one?

Sorry to hear that GermanwithaVdub, didn't mean to highlight any negatives you may have experienced. I must admit alot of other dealers are just down right pathetic, and you could have done alot worse than you did. I have only not dealt with two dealers in sydney (Sutherland & Hornsby) and I plan for some fun over the coming weeks to pay them a visit and see what they are like but so far CCC have been the best all round. Can't wait till I get mine now and when I do you're on for a drive up the putty rd full length, during the week! :D
