Hi guys,

my mechanic told me that I will need to replace my brake pads and discs soon. I have looked around, and there are so many different brands. What would you guys recommend?

I know Brembo makes good brakes, are these discs any good for my CC?

Rear Brembo Brake Discs VW Passat CC 2 0 TDI Coupe 2008 2011 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/REAR-Brembo-Brake-Discs-VW-Passat-Cc-2-0-TDI-Coupe-2008-2011-/270930429400?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f14b645d8)

Front Brembo Brake Discs VW Passat CC 2 0 TDI Coupe 2008 2011 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FRONT-Brembo-Brake-Discs-VW-Passat-Cc-2-0-TDI-Coupe-2008-2011-/270931230803?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f14c28053)

Thanks.

Thanks Umai Naa... In regards to pads, who makes good ones, low noise and dust? Is Brembo one of the good ones as well?

Warricks recomendation is very good.

You'll get the DBA rotors from GSL Rallysport / Brakes Direct (forum sponsor). The ATE pads are a bit harder to come by. The importer is HSY is in / near Alexandria but they appear to only sell to the trade, so you'll need to ring HSY then find out who you can buy from. You may as well get the ATE rotors at the same time. ATE Ceramic Brake Pads (http://www.hsy.com.au/ate-ceramic-brake-pads).

Personally, I'd just ring Brakes Direct & find out what pads they recomend. QF A1RM will meet your requirements but IIRC don't have a wer indicator. They carry half a dozen other brands so they'll have something.

the pads came from:
Everything You Need to Know About ATE Ceramic Brake Pads - Bavaria Motor Tuning Service, Brendale (http://www.bavariamotortuningservice.com.au/73899/2013/06/11/everything-you-need-to-know-about-ate-ceramic-brake-pads-.html)
cost was $190pr frt only
rotors from GSL RALLYSPORTS and were $108 each, prior to recent price rise.

That's not a hugely terrible price for RRP when you look at the cost of Project Mu or DS2500 or some of the other fancy, well marketed pads.

It's not a bad price at all.

Interested to hear how they go with an OEM soft disc, as opposed to the much harder DBA and RDA discs.

Indeed. It comes as a shock when youare used to a discount then have to pay full freight.

The discounts probably aren't as big now but I used to get 80% off RRP when I was doing brakes. We were part of a chain & had a massive spend with Quinton Hazel at the time therefore got a huge discount. I used to have a lot of contacts in the brake trade but they've all gone now (several due to asbestos related lung diseases - work safe guys)

Hi guys,

What do I gain and lose from slotted and drilled discs vs normal discs?

I understand they improve braking performance but do discs and pads wear faster?

I've been pondering whether to stick with plain face discs or move to slotted (wouldn't bother with drilled) and given how little stress I put on the braking system (150,000km and still factory pads / rotors) and that I don't experience glazing issues or wet weather pad delay, I think I'll be sticking with plain face in a premium rotor like DBA 4000 series.

If you get up it a bit more, slotted may be beneficial.

Hi guys,

I placed an order for DBA T2 slotted front and rear today. I also went to HSY and bought ceramic brake pads front and rear.
I'm just a bit concerned about the rear pads, the box says the pads are for caddy TDI, and doesn't mention Passat CC (the box of the front pad does).
I asked the lady about it, and she told me that should be alright, she got whatever the VIN number says on the system.
15361

EDIT: I have checked ATE LD2880 online, it looks like it should be fine for Passat CC.

Please kindly provide feedback on how does ATE go with DBA slotted disc. Thanks.

Sure will do... @warrick has the same combination (ATE Ceramic & DBA T2 slotted) on his CC, and he is happy with that.

What type of money were the pads direct from HSY?

Any particular reason you didn't get the ATE rotors?

I paid $300 for front and rear pads. No reason for not going with ATE rotors... I read about the DBA T2 slotted and people seem to like them, and warrick recommended them as well...
any reason I should have went with ATE rotors? my rotors haven't been shipped yet, not too late to change :D

I think they give a minimum life warranty when used together. Maybe not worth it for 50,000km?

Story goes, the ATE Ceramics are intended for use on OEM-compound (re: soft) discs.

It's entirely up to you, but if it were me, I'd have gone with the ATE discs.

Hmmmm, so you recon T2 and ATE ceramics are a bad combination? If yes, is that in performance or wear?
I really like the look of slotted discs over the plain ones...

Ok, I ended up getting ATE coated discs, front and rear, cost me $600... Picked them up today from HSY.
I hope they will perform well and won't be too noisy...

So I had the new brake pads an discs for 5 days now.

I'm very happy with my choice. The brakes are silent, no noise whatsoever.

So far no dust on the rims either. By now, my rims would be covered in dust with the old OEM pads.

Performance wise, I can't see any difference compared to the OEM pads and discs, they are good enough...

My mechanic told me that I will be very happy with the ATE ceramics when he saw them, he also said the he installed them on an Audi S5 last week.

Total cost with installation and new brake fluid ~ $1300

Thanks all for your helpful input, much appreciated :)

If you don't have good brakes then something will break.

Hi guys. I am new here. I am in the same boat. I need to replace front discs and pads on my 09 Passat Cc v6 3.6 L. I have heard there are 3 different sizes for my year of front discs. So I'll have to measure my rotors. Also regarding the brand of pads/discs. Any recommendations of a brand that is like factory stock ones? I called brakes plus they said they use RDA...

Did you bother to read the thread?

Stay away from RDA - you can do a lot better for not a lot extra.

Your rotors are probably 345mm diameter x 30mm thick

Just get DBA OEM replacement plain face rotors for "normal" driving. They are <$200 a pair on eBay. (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DBA2808-OEM-DBA-Front-Disc-Rotors-x-2-to-suit-Audi-A3-3-2-Quattro-04-09-/330966549857?hash=item4d0f24c561:g:9TEAAMXQ0v1Rb0x Q) If you want something "heavy duty" get the 4000 series plain face. They are about $410/pair DBA42808

Pads = Remsa for a budget priced direct OEM quality replacement with a small reduction in dust.

ATE ceramic if you want a huge reduction in dust for almost double the price.

Replaced front and rear discs and pads on 2009 CC TDI (first time pads and discs changed since car bought new) - rear discs were okay but just decided to do the lot myself. Bought Remsa pads and DBA (En-shield) discs (vented front and solid rear) - excellent stopping power and a lot less dust! Very happy with the combo - bought parts from Sparesbox - $425.20 total.
