I have been searching the internet including such places as Supercheap Autos site and cannot find a definative answer on the spark plugs needed for my car. A Bosch or NGK part number would be good... anyone got a suggestion, I think my plugs need replacing with my next oil change. On that topic, i bought 10w 30 Oil (5 litre) for the car... is this the right one? My manual speaks about oil in some strange language that does not relate to the X x X series.... so,

Plugs?
Oil - type and quantity please

It would probably help if you said what engine you have..

Oil should have VW 504/507 approval if you want to cover all the bases. You can get away with 502 (I assume you have a petrol engine if you want spark plugs). Which 10w-30 did you buy? Could you be a bit specific as Supercheap probably carry about 12 different types of 10w-30.

Spark plugs are due at 60,000km (and even that is early on some of them

Short answer is NO.
The oil should have VW approval at least VW 502.00
but ideally you should really use WV504.00/507.00

I have sigs turned off - I'm not interested in reading that somebody has modded their interior with a patchouli scented air freshener.

That's the incorrect oil.

If that's a 1.8tsi (same engine as mine) then the correct Valvoline oil is Synpower XL-III 5w-30.

According to the service book, the 1.8tsi has a spark plug change interval of 90,000km. According to the VW shops, it's 60k.
I've done mine at both intervals & they looked the same so it's up to you.

I bought Denso IK22 Iridium Power spark plugs the last time I changed them. They were $53 posted off eBay but the dollar has dropped since then - $63 seems to be the rate now

Thank you one and all for advice and Input. Special thanks to Brad, I have ordered the plugs he has suggested. I have learned a lot in my first few days on this forum in regards to protocol and manners. Will attempt to be a more useful member in the future.:cool:

SCA will also have a Castrol EDge & Shell Helix that are approved 504/507.

Get an OEM or german made filter. Don't trust Ryco

You had a bad experience with a Ryco filter? Where do you buy other ones (apart from a Skoda dealer)?

^ Runautoparts has MANN filters for about $25 which is about as cheap as you will find locally. MANN make the filters for Skoda/VW/Audi.

Genuine are usually cheaper than Ryco anyway.

On an older VW I had, Ryco filters didn't flow as well as OEM spec filters so the bulk of the oil would bypass the filter. Once bitten, twice shy.

As Umai says, genuine Skoda will be cheaper than Ryco anyway. SCA & Repco aren't really your best source of parts for your Skoda/VW.

I'm using UFI air / fuel / cabin filters from ebay and they appear to be OEM suppliers to VW. I think my oil filters are Mann but it might be some other German brand (I bought half a dozen).

Mann filters from Run Auto appear to be good value but even the dealership ones are only around $30 last time I looked.

Just updated my previous post with a link to the oil filter you need at Run Auto Parts. This filter suits the 1.8 and 2.0 TSI engines.

Plugs changed... the NGKs were a little "fuzzy" on the ends.. seems a while since the car saw new plugs.... seems to run a little better now.. just have to wait till 12 January to get the Clutch plates replaced... then it should be all good...

I've been using new parts ordered from Parts Navigator in Australia for several years now.

These include air filters, oil filters, compartment filters, spark plugs & brake parts. They are all European imported original or OEM parts & the OEM is usually the supplier to VW anyway. Prices have been OK & delivery around a week, unless they bring it in which sees delivery at 10 days. In most cases I've ordered multiples of each so I have my own stock. I don't bother with Skoda dealers because they keep no stock & I've have to order in through them anything I've ever asked for anyway.

Even if you don't buy from Parts Navigator, it is a useful site to check part numbers & makers in their database & lists of applicable vehicles using the same part. They list the VW original part numbers & all the various OEM makers & their numbers. Most consumable parts seem to be compatible with just about every maker in Europe, albeit every one of them sells it under a different part number to make it look unique to them. In most cases when searching for a particular part, clicking on 'open information' it gives you full technical details. Click on 'price' will give provide makers available & clicking on search brings a pop-up listing all 'compatible vehicles' & quite often an image of the item. Sometimes the VW original offers two part numbers. In the case of oil filters, it is usually one for cold climates, one for hot climates. Strangely my 3.6 V6, the original factory parts fitted for Australia, were cold weather filters.
You can also register with your VIN & they will check the correct part for you.

I only mention this mob because we have so few alternatives in Australia.
