guys, i'm very close to buying a 2001 A3, 1.8i but everyone i speak to keeps telling me regular service checks and parts in general are still very expensive in Australia. I think its a nmyth considering none of them own one. Can anyone dispel this myth for my peace of mind?
Thanks, B

the price of parts has dropped over the years as manufacturers compete with places like Repco and Burson auto parts. Coolant expansion tank with sensor is only $25. Genuine waterpump $88 etc etc. Go for it! You will love it. Where are you located by the way?

Welcome aboard! I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

If the price of servicing is of concern, get the log books aqnd check it's history. Call the mechanics and research if it has had things like timing belt and water pump done. Otherwise - it's fairly standard prices.

Depends where you are in Sydney we can lead you a few different Euro VW/Audi specialists who will be cheaper than dealers and give you better service! :)

They do cost more than your commodore/falcon but not as exhorbitantly expensive as they used to be.
