    CEL and whistle

I was driving home from Sydney and noticed my MFD flash a couple of times then the CEL lit up. I pulled over and checked all fluid levels and continued home. After about 20 Ka I noticed a high pitched whistle coming from the rear of the engine bay. I assumed that it could be the pcv valve. When I pulled the dipstick the whistle stopped and the idle was rough. I smoothed out when replaced and the whistle returned. If it is the pcv, is it an easy replacement and are they available aftermarket. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You are in luck - not only are replacement PCV's for Mk5 GTI's cheap, but a local Sydney shop has them in stock

I replaced my PCV with a genuine part today and although it is running heaps better with no whistle , the cel is still on. Do I need to have this cleared with a scan tool or is there another way of doing it?

It will likely go away on its own after a few days. If not, then you will need to get a mechanic clear the code (even places like Supercheap Auto can clear codes these days).
