    steering wheel leather freshen up/repair

    Morning guys.

Just a quick couple of questions for anyone who may be able to help.

The steering wheel on the GTI has a 'rough spot' at the 2 o'clock position on the rear of the steering wheel.

How should i go about starting to fix this? (preferably without removing the steering wheel).

Im thinking some sort of emery paper? wet and dry? shoe polish or leather dye? or just a leather repair kit after some gentle wet sanding?

    Many thanks.

also ... whilst on the subject of leather. I would like to purchase a nice leather clean/protect kit. any recommendations? how often should this be done?

    Thanks again.

Perhaps if you specify a more precise location in your profile than just Australia someone may be able to help you. No good recommending someone in Brisbane if you live in Perth, is it.

I had a Landcruiser wheel that had got tatty and a Vinyl repairer fixed it for me when I was selling the vehicle. Was an old fellow from Capalaba who came over to Logan to do it for me.

Cant remember his name as it was 5 years ago but yellow pages may help.

He has a son who has a similar business on the Sunshine Coast so if you contact him he may be able to give you a contact number.

I think it might have been Uticolor up the coast

Sorry but you should be able to find him as I got hold of him a year or so later via the son but havent kept the number.

Didnt cost a lot and looked good.

I had a similar rough spot in a similar position.

Wiping all the dirt & crap off with microfibre cloth & mild detergent mixture followed by some Oroton leather restorer seemed to mask 90% of mine. I think any leather rejuvinator / restorer would do the job - Oroton was what we had in the cupboard for the wife's handbags.
