You know you own a MK1 when it breaks down 2km from where you bought it, and you still have 85km to go to get home.

Did some PDR on the driver’s door and removed the ugly fuel requirement sticker above the filler cap.

I pulled the spark plugs out today and did a dry compression test. The spark plugs are a bit black, but none were cleaner/dirtier than the others.

The 6 speed in the GTI/PP and R is the culprit. My girlfriend has a Polo GTI with the 7 speed DSG and no such issues.

Wonder if a DSG remap would fix it?
