I had a similar issue a couple of years ago - 7.5 R would intermittently jump into neutral for a couple of seconds pulling away from a stop (eg: on the change from 1st->2nd).

Button won't act as mute in 7.5 R - They have voice control. But maybe you could activate voice control and tell it to mute??? Have to try that and see if it works!
The power button is the mute button - single press for mute/un-mute - long press for power off.
Yes - Byte 23 gets changed from "02" (in my case - might be different for you) to "00" to disable the Nav Nag screen.

You can't only download Australia you get the whole ROW package.... "(but you get the whole ROW maps not just Australia)".
But you can either download using the Discovercare app or by downloading...

You can download the DiscoverCare app and it will do the map downloading for you. If your car does not have an SD card for the maps...

It can be done on a 7.5 R (I've done it). Will get you some screen shots for the current VCDS software when I get a chance (probably tomorrow).
The Discovercare download page has moved. You can access the .EXE download from here. Just select your car etc..

I have a VCDS cable so I haven't used OBDeleven, but from what I have read I would be very surprised if you can't do it with OBDeleven.
Not much - Traffic (TMC), Indicators (4 Blinks) and Nag screen off. I will do more over time as I find things that annoy me :)

From Memory I press the "CAR" button to get the status screen, then hit "Setup", Then "Lights" and it's in the lights list. I have a 2014 mk7 so this is MIB1. Not sure exactly where it would be if...
Mine has dynamic and static and as far as I am aware if you have Bi-Xenons on your GTI or R you should have dynamic cornering lights as well as the static ones.

The five folders are actually 5 parts of one large compressed archive (zip) file. You need to use 7-Zip to combine the 5 files together and extract the contents. You can get 7 zip here 7-Zip
