Just a word of caution....(but you probably know this already!)...if anything goes wrong you void warranty if any work, no matter how minor, is carried out by anyone other than a registered workshop.
She's started first pop all week....even in early morning temps of 4 degrees twice. Kinda discounts the failed battery hypothesis :?
No chance to get to the dealer this week and I doubt if VAGCOM...
The charger did its job and the battery was fully charged this morning. It started the car with gusto first pop. I'll ring the dealer today and hope that something constructive happens.:frown:

"Transporter"....Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed reply. You're right about the age of a battery and it's capacity to accept charge and hold it. The 640CCA battery in the TDI can take a...
Got VW Assist out this morning after having the charger on for 24hrs and still not having enough to turn the starter over. He had a power pack and she went first pop so I check the alternator and it...

If you have had a problem with your Mk5's battery going flat overnight have a look here:

And it's absolutely flat! It looks like the same thing that happened to my TDI 2 years ago. That time it had been standing for 3 days, however this time only 1. With 3 months of warranty left on it I...
For those (like me) who were unaware of this product and how it works, here's a link:

This article's a little out of date (2007) however it shows that the US car buyer is seriously considering diesels.

I'll probably go to gaol for posting this link (according to Reuters copyright notice)...but here goes anyway:

Too many variables...too short a test. And dropping the tyre pressures!!!!!
Oh dear....they really stuffed this one up! (But it was good fun!)
At least the dreadful prejudice of Clarkson wasn't a...
31,500km and now my TDI is quieter than ever before! I'm used to diesels getting noisier as they get oldsr so this is a new experience for me. At tickover you can only just make out diesel clatter...
I guess with a username like mine I had better provide a link to info about cetane rating.
One thing worthy of note is that it isn't just a case of "the higher the cetane number the faster you...
It's actually a fungus, Doc... Not an alga. It grows in the tank and produces a black sludge which is the fruiting body of the fungus. This gets dislodged and then is drawn into the fuel lines...
And mine too!
Over 40 years of diesel ownership and I have NEVER had to replace any part of an exhaust system :-) and Ayden.. Part of the reason is the layer of carbon that forms on the inside and...
G'day, Josh.
Don't forget the air going in, too. I just fitted a pod filter (K&N) to my Landrover Discovery Tdi and the difference is phenomonal! She just breathes easier overall, but it's most...
The tank is vented to allow air to escape during filling. (A bit like trying to fill a bottle with water without an air gap at the top.)
It's possible that the vent pipe is blocked or you're...
Me too!
Is your brother also injecting the O2 derived from the electrolysis of water? On-board splitting of H2O needs an energy source. Is this provided directly from the charging system? If so,...
I suppose the H2 is stored under compression in a cast metal cylinder? If so, there must be a pressure regulator and a "gas on demand" system similar to Impco LPG systems. (Only guessing!) Or is the...

Geez....That guy "Brackie" is a legend....Whatever happened to him???
;-)
I have to agree.
I reckon this unfortunate event has scared we TDI owners badly and has certainly made me consider extended warranty more seriously.
In your position, the advice to go to an...
Gotta be a bit careful! There's only so far that you can stretch the CVs before you bugger them and you'd have to make sure that it dosen't compromise your steering components and brake pipes. I've...
(Ignoring the distraction if you can....) Having to queue for diesel tells you somethin'...Doesn't it?
