Hey. I haven't been here for a very long time but I'm not dead (yet).
When I moved off the farm I discovered some Mk1 Golf diesel bits in my shed. They're just sitting there gathering dust so I...

    Warranty

Just a word of caution....(but you probably know this already!)...if anything goes wrong you void warranty if any work, no matter how minor, is carried out by anyone other than a registered workshop.

    Update 2

She's started first pop all week....even in early morning temps of 4 degrees twice. Kinda discounts the failed battery hypothesis :?

No chance to get to the dealer this week and I doubt if VAGCOM...

    Update....

The charger did its job and the battery was fully charged this morning. It started the car with gusto first pop. I'll ring the dealer today and hope that something constructive happens.:frown:

    Cheers for the input!

"Transporter"....Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed reply. You're right about the age of a battery and it's capacity to accept charge and hold it. The 640CCA battery in the TDI can take a...

Got VW Assist out this morning after having the charger on for 24hrs and still not having enough to turn the starter over. He had a power pack and she went first pop so I check the alternator and it...

    Flat battery....again!

And it's absolutely flat! It looks like the same thing that happened to my TDI 2 years ago. That time it had been standing for 3 days, however this time only 1. With 3 months of warranty left on it I...

    The "Big Awakening"

This article's a little out of date (2007) however it shows that the US car buyer is seriously considering diesels.

    She's gone quiet on me!

31,500km and now my TDI is quieter than ever before! I'm used to diesels getting noisier as they get oldsr so this is a new experience for me. At tickover you can only just make out diesel clatter...

    Diesel fungus

It's actually a fungus, Doc... Not an alga. It grows in the tank and produces a black sludge which is the fruiting body of the fungus. This gets dislodged and then is drawn into the fuel lines...

    Vents

The tank is vented to allow air to escape during filling. (A bit like trying to fill a bottle with water without an air gap at the top.)

Is your brother also injecting the O2 derived from the electrolysis of water? On-board splitting of H2O needs an energy source. Is this provided directly from the charging system? If so,...

Storage? Decreased volume of diesel injected?

I suppose the H2 is stored under compression in a cast metal cylinder? If so, there must be a pressure regulator and a "gas on demand" system similar to Impco LPG systems. (Only guessing!) Or is the...
