    Hello Everybody!

    Hello Everybody!

So I'm new to the site in the respect of joining up, although I've found the forum before to locate a local VA Garage in preparation for my car arriving in Australia.

I'm from the UK originally, and I've wanted to own a Mk1 Golf since school (I'm 31 now!), however, another car I'd wanted more from childhood came first!

Anyway, I'd needed another car for a while, after shipping my other car over a few years ago. So I jumped online and found one that had top drawer mechanics, but needed a little work on the exterior. Got it for an absolute bargain, and will be doing considerable work on it once it arrives to make it worth a small mint.

There are some pictures below, but specific details of the car if anyone is interested are as follows:

It was registered in December 1983. It's a Mk1 Golf GTI Cabriolet, which I found to be quite hard to find over here. It was originally white, but had a custom paint job done on it. While I like the blue, the engine bay is still white, and I think I'll return it to it's original colour. It looks pretty good in the pictures, but the paint job isn't that great with a few bubbles and bits missing.

Other than the colour changes, some other mods from normal include:

    Adjustable FK coilovers
    Front strut brace
Euro smooth front grille and headlights
    Single wiper conversion
    Braided fuel lines
    Alpine cassette player

It was an A-reg in the UK. 1780cc DX engine. I don't know all the details about previous owners, but the guy I bought it from got it from auction. It had been sold off as a project given up on. It had the entire engine rebuilt just before he bought it, but needed a new gearbox. I had the car taken into a VAG specialist and it passed with flying colours, except for a small leak on the radiator which was replaced.

It was picked up by my Dad, and stored in Cornwall briefly while I got all the approvals through and then shipped over to Brisbane. It arrived last week. One very bizarre turn of events was the it arrived sans gear knob. Some filthy rotten hairy knuckled wharfie took a HACKSAW to the gear stick to steal the original black golf ball knob. God knows why, but I'm in the process of ordering replacement parts while I consider suing the barstewards!!

Anyhow, watch this space, as there will be some considerable changes to come for this little beauty!

    Poor sheared gear lever!
