    Not really necessary.

    They have an electric water pump that continues to run after shutdown, to stabilise temperature.

    It's not hurting anything to leave it there.

    There's quite a few pre-facelift TDIs available for not too much money, am wondering which issues can pop up with these?

    Just drove a 2010 prefacelift tdi today, with the 7 speed DSG (DSG DQ500-7A). This is still a wet clutch like the 6 speed DSG?

    Yes the 7 speed in the Tiguan is a high torque wet clutch unit. The DQ500 is a pretty reliable unit - even better than the 6 speed. There's very few issues with this particular transmission.
