There needs to be a job line created on the repair order, which has to be clocked onto before the recall is carried out. As part of the recall, the vehicle is placed in a designated bay for such software updates, which is reflected in the technician's handwritten report.

So ultimately, it will be mentioned on the invoice whether it was carried out.

Should be is probably more accurate. I dont trust them at all and always check mine before paying. Why Because I supply my own oil and more than once they have tried to charge me for it.

Also things on the invoice that cant be done on a diesel which makes me think they print out a generic invoice for the model regardless of fuel type and fill in the usual blanks.

I signed the waiver for the recall on mine and always emphasise that it be marked clearly in large writing on the instructions

We refused the recall flash on ours last service, we signed the waiver refusing the flash.
But we also have a friend that works at the dealer and he made sure that he was the one that serviced our car and everything was done as we wanted.

I can't comment on what dealers choose to do, I can only remark on the actual procedure.

My VWs go to my friendly local independent VW specialist mechanic for servicing and they never ask me to do the update
