APR Tuned Candy White Golf 6 R from South Africa

    Hi guys!

Here is the build thread of my Golf R as I said I would post...

Picked up my ride at Lindsay Saker in Mooi Street, JHB here in South Africa.

    Here are the pics:
Pics I took after I unveiled her...

The mileage when I started her...

Parked next to my dad's Merc GL350

And my first pic in Bethlehem here in the Free State...

Was still waiting for the NATIS to transfer my custom plates to my new car.

Mileage was sitting around 570kms after coming home... Started giving her the beans from there...

Re: APR Tuned Candy White Golf 6 R from South Africa

And so came the favourite part of a Golf R!!!

Power and modding one to make more power!!!

With around 800kms on the clock at the time, I figured it was time to get the car to a local tune up centre here called Ferreira Broers that has an AWD dyno...

We lined the car up and strapped her...

    A video of the run...

And the output figures. Please note these are flywheel figures as the graph shows ambient power corrected and engine power corrected on the side... But it's STOCK power!

And here are two videos I took of her launching over the weekend...
A normal run off the line...

A run off the line using DSG's Launch Control...

Stock figures of 0-100 in 5.5 seconds were very believable at the time!

My Evoms Cold Air Intake to be fitted.

My 76mm stainless Decat DownPipe. Had a small resonator to help bring the noise levels down

My ugly old OEM Downpipe removed...

    New Downpipe fitted...

    My stock engine bay...

    Stripping and fitting...

    Intake fitted...

Also installed a Forge recirculating DV to replace the Revision H DV. I have always had more respect for these DVs.

My engine bay as it stood that time... 2400kms mileage...

Also fitted some other goodies. R read pedal and R seat inserts

A proud me with my cab that time...

Re: APR Tuned Candy White Golf 6 R from South Africa

Went to Kyle from Concept Audio and Performance. (One of the APR dealers here in SA)
I bought a new APR High Pressure Fuel Pump and here he is installing it for me.
    Removal of the old HPFP.

Inspection of the cam follower, which was still spotless at 3300kms...

My new APR pump! Expensive piece of equipment but of ultimate quality!!!

I was also offered a great special on an APR tune and went straight to Stage 2+. Car was really very very powerful now!

Also bought a set of H&R springs for my R.

And then stopped by Steve Hurley from Koni South Africa to have it fitted.

    My new springs...

    Old vs new..

    Old strut being stripped

I then had a good chat with Steve and Ashley regarding the suspension setup. With little persuasion, I then decided to go the full route and match the springs to a set of Koni FSD dampers.

    Ashley installing everything...

    My new yummy front struts!

    The rear section...

Also decided to do it proper and fitted Powerflex bushes to the front suspension...

Car was then booked at AutoQuip for alignment... The lowered results already show! You can see the difference already in previous pics of my build.

Re: APR Tuned Candy White Golf 6 R from South Africa

With all the horrible rains we have been having, my car look horrible when I got home back to the Free State. Needed to have her valeted again. I then took some decent snaps and here is what she looks liked then.

Also ordered something extra for a nice touch...

    Brought the car to work...

My APR Stage 2+ badge! (The '+' is upside down and only realised it after sticking it on! Doh!!!)

I went to Sportech to install all the goodies that had finally arrived... Sportech Cars is the largest APR dealer in South Africa! After seeing their place I understood why!

I have to say that they also really have the cleanest workshop I have ever seen!

They got to work by fitting the APR Runner Flap Delete kit. This involves taking off your intake manifold.

My intake valves at 5900kms... They are black but not packed up yet...

The technician getting to work with my intake manifold

The runner flaps removed and replaced with the RFD kit from APR

Fitted a REVO throttle intake pipe (No pics as it was fitted by the time I got into the workshop, and a Neuspeed K04 Discharge pipe..

Also fitted the H&R Anti Roll Bars which are way thicker and better than the flimsy stock ones.

    My APR RSC catback exhaust...

Re: APR Tuned Candy White Golf 6 R from South Africa

The guys practically bolted it onto my existing 3" Downpipe. But the downpipe I have has a reducer so the reducer from APR was also used. I will look at a 3" full straight downpipe from Sportech to go with the exhaust then next time...

My APR tips - I went for the chrome ones cause I like them more.

They then loaded the RFD file so the car doesn't sound like it has a modified cam on cold starts. My fully loaded ECU was not ready and should be ready for my next trip so I can do the map switching. The guys then aligned the tips and fitted some vinyl for me... Big ups to Chad and the boys from Sportech. They really did work hard on my car!

My drive back... It was incredible. The car is actually quieter than just with the downpipe. It's only when I get on the throttle... When I get on the throttle you actually hear the wind rushing out the tailpipes followed by a howl that is pleasantly loud! At certain shifts you will hear an occasional bang!!! The RFD kit with the intake and discharge pipe seems to seems to have brought in a new noise as well. One can hear the turbo whine when gunning her hard. This car really sounds incredible!

    A quick 100km/h-200km/h video...

Here is a startup vid from the morning with the RFD kit. The cold start is eliminated with a remap! Good job APR! Tone is very quite until you start revving her up.

Some of the car using launch control and sport mode...

And one of the car in manual mode, just shifting earlier and giving her the beans!
