Ended up taking the clear off with isopropyl alcohol. Took a lot of work to remove so I wouldn’t recommend using VHT clear.

nice build by the way, I use to love the older sciroccos back in the day, they haven't lost their appeal with the new version. I use to have a golf gti back in the uk. went with the passat this time as 2 kids need more room!

im just tossing up whether to pay $150 per caliber to get someone to paint mine, or do what you did and paint them myself and add teh sticker. I can justify a new break kit as its a daily drive and the standard brakes are adequate. only other thing is I don't have anything to jack the car on. hmmmmmm think I solve this one after the mods are done.

Interesting. Another one to add to the list...

By the time you buy a set of jack stands (I’d actually recommend using 4 and do all 4 corners at the same time) and buy paint and degreaser, you’ll probably be not far off the price for getting them done.

The main benefit then will be you have some jack stands for later...

    Tigger73's Scirocco R

Thanks. Haven't done much to it lately so not a whole lot to report.

Had it's 2 year service done and first set of tyres changed at 35,000km.

Also had the steering wheel control module replaced under warranty as I had intermittent (every months or so) cruise control not activating. Seems to have fixed the issue.

Had the car detuned to run on 95 (Vortex 98 ) as I have a Caltex fuel card for work and the octane rating of Caltex fuels is lower than most of the other suppliers by quite a bit.

Had the car run on the dyno at the SA dyno day and still made over 200kwaw so I'm happy.

Tigger, I was surprised to read your comments re Caltex Vortex 98 fuel being equivalent to the 95 octane rating of other brand fuels eg BP. I wonder what you base this on eg dyno experience, personal experience or general trade experience. Out of sheer location convenience I have been running my 2012 Scirocco R with APR Stage 2+ mods (VWR CAI, APR HPFP, APR D/P & Stage 2 APR Tune) exclusively on Vortex 98.
After reading your Post, I rang Guy Harding this am & he confirmed that they only test with BP98 Ultimate, that they have found variable batches of Shell98, & they have never really tested with Caltex Vortex98. As there is no price difference of which I am aware, it would seem sensible that I change to BP98.
It surprises me that there is no Authority that checks the legitimacy of advertised octane ratings of different fuel brands.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention via your post.

I've had discussions with my tuner. A number of years ago the Motor Magazine Hot Tuner competition used Vortex 98 as the control fuel and many of the cars had issues with the lower octane fuel. I've seen it while logging my own vehicle. The car was continually pulling timing under load and at higher ambient temps. So I ended up getting the car detuned to run on Vortex98. I ran out of fuel the other week and put a splash of BP Ultimate in and it ran so much better.

If you have a choice and there's not a big difference in price I'd be filling up with BP Ultimate.

I am a little annoyed given that I have a Caltex fuelcard that the fuel is a lower octane than others on the market. And yes I'm sure Caltex are pocketing a few cents per liter by supplying fuel of a lower spec. I don't have any proof but I'm sure ACCC would be interested if fuel suppliers were consistently supplying fuels of lower RON than advertised.

Of course I don't have any test data other than knowing that there is a difference in how the different fuels run in my car. Who knows BP Ultimate could be supplying 100RON and some of the others are right on 98 but I wouldn't think that would be the case.

A couple of small running repairs. Undid the rear splitter/bumper and fixed one of the reverse sensors that had come loose.

Remove 2 x torque screws and you can slide your hand/arm up the back of the bumper and push the sensor back into place.

Also fixed one of the trims under the steering wheel that hadn't got put back correctly when the steering wheel control module was replaced under warranty (to fix an intermittent cruise control issue). Good thing is I think the new SWCM has sorted the problem. Bad thing was the tech who did it didn't put the trims back properly and it had introduced an annoying rattle. Anyway re-installed the trims and hopefully thre rattle is gone now too.

How would you detune it and still have 202atw. I thought they only have 188kw atfw

It's a detuned stage 1 file to work with 95-96 octane fuel.

And yes stock they're about 160kwaw (188 at the fly) so it's still a nice increase
